Gwen Stefani ‘Burst Out Crying’ When Blake Shelton Showed Her Where 1 of Her Songs Charted
In 2021, Blake Shelton surprised Gwen Stefani after she released the song “Let Me Reintroduce Myself.” Stefani said she was excited to put out new music, but she didn’t have particularly high expectations on how it would perform. When he showed her how it charted, she burst into tears.
Gwen Stefani burst into tears when Blake Shelton showed her how her song performed
Stefani’s career as a singer has spanned decades. While she is glad for her sustained success, she admitted that she, like many artists who have been around as long as her, has trouble putting out new music. She likes to work on new albums as it keeps her career feeling exciting, but fans often want to hear songs she wrote years ago.
“You make a new record because that’s what is exciting for you,” she told Paper Magazine. “But people really just want to hear the records after a while that were the backdrop to their lives, a ‘Don’t Speak’ or a ‘Just a Girl’ or a ‘Hollaback Girl,’ or whatever it was for them. So, you know, it’s hard — you can only be new when you’re new, and that’s just the truth, and I know that.”
Still, she continues to work on new projects. In 2021 Stefani released the song “Let Me Reintroduce Myself.” She was proud of it, but she said she didn’t check to see how “Let Me Reintroduce Myself” performed. She said she hadn’t expected anything special from it. Shelton eventually brought his laptop into the kitchen to show her that it charted on iTunes.
“I burst out crying with joy, because it was like, ‘Whoa, really?’” she said. “I think I’d set myself up to be quite realistic about where I’m at.”
Gwen Stefani said her kids and Blake Shelton made her want to finish her project
In 2021, Stefani said that her priorities had shifted. She still liked working on music, but she didn’t like staying away from Shelton and her children.
“I’m at the end,” she said. “The idea of going for a session and not being with my kids or the idea of taking time away from Blake doesn’t fuel my fire like it did two months ago. I need to decide, wrap it up, put out the project.”
Her latest album, Bouquet, comes out Nov. 15, 2024.
She said she feels proud of the hits she has
Despite her long string of successes, Stefani said she still has “tons” of insecurities about her music. She pointed to Cyndi Lauper’s song “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” as a timeless, catchy hit and found herself comparing her songs to it. After a moment of self-doubt, though, Stefani realized that she has a massive catalog of hits.
“But then I started thinking,” she said. “Like, I have a few of those myself.”
