Gwen Stefani has been in the news for the last four years mostly because of relationship drama, but her career has been hot for much longer than that. One thing Stefani has always been known for, aside from her tremendous musical talent, is her striking good looks and iconic red lipstick. As it turns out, that lipstick is much more accessible than most people realize.

She was a musician right out of high school

Stefani became a member of the band No Doubt in 1987, the year she graduated from high school. After many successful years with the band, she struck out on her own.

She released her first solo album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby. in 2004, and it was a huge hit. One of the songs on that album, “Hollaback Girl,” became an anthem that people still associate with her.

The album sold 350,000 copies in the first week, and it went platinum within four weeks. Stefani has since sold more than nine million albums as a solo artist and more than 40 million albums including her work with No Doubt.

As if that weren’t enough, she’s also branched out into other ventures as well. She founded a fashion line, called L.A.M.B. (from the title of her first solo album), and released two perfumes. She’s also dabbled in acting, and she was even nominated for a SAG Award for her work in Martin Scorsese’s film The Aviator in 2004.

She’s also worked as both a mentor and a coach on the popular television show The Voice, although her Las Vegas residency eventually made it impossible for her to continue on the show.

Throughout her career, Stefani has become something of a beauty icon. She’s immediately recognizable by her platinum blonde hair and bold red lips. It turns out that her devotion to the eye-catching lipstick has been with her for a long time — and she has her grandmother to thank.

“My grandma gave me a bunch of colors in my Christmas stocking when I was 18. I tried one on in my car and saw it in the rear-view mirror.,” Stefani said in an interview with In Style. “I remember loving how it made me feel: daring.”

The singer has said that if she weren’t in the music business she would probably be working in beauty or fashion. Plenty of women would love to sign up for her to help them have her look. But although it may not be possible for fans to have Stefani style them, it turns out they can probably emulate at least one thing about her look.

Her favorite lipstick is surprisingly affordable

You might expect Stefani to favor the kind of super-expensive makeup that most stars wear. But it turns out that when it comes to lipstick she prefers a brand that’s much more affordable. She’s a Revlon global brand ambassador, and she’s smitten with one of their products.

“I have all the Super Lustrous Lipsticks,” she explained. “This is why it’s so fun to work with Revlon; they hook me up with all this amazing make-up, which means I get to wear colors I never thought I would wear. You know what I mean, I would always normally go for a blue red, but it’s been fun to explore all the different colors.”

Although she has fun playing with different colors, she does have one shade that’s her favorite. She says “Cherries In The Snow” is the shade she can’t live without. “I’m a classic girl; I like that the color has been around forever. It’s that real old-school red.”

Best of all, Stefani’s top red lipstick only costs around $8. That makes it much more affordable, so fans can copy her bold red smile, and experience that “daring” feeling for themselves.
