Gwen Stefani’s Son, Kingston, Said He Hated Country Music Before Blake Shelton
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton fell hard and fast in love after meeting on The Voice. The No Doubt frontwoman and the country singer tied the knot in 2021, and Stefani has said how much she adores her new life in Oklahoma. Stefani’s three kids, whom she shares with Gavin Rossdale, also love the change of pace from Los Angeles to the southwestern state. However, Kingston Rossdale, Stefani’s oldest son, allegedly hated country music before Shelton.
Kingston Rossdale, Gwen Stefani’s oldest son, used to say that he ‘hates’ country music, a source claimed
Gwen Stefani was a California girl before meeting Blake Shelton. But once she fell in love with the country king, she started spending a lot of time in Oklahoma. Now, she frequently talks about how much she adores the state, as it offers her the natural beauty and tranquility she can’t find in Los Angeles.
Stefani’s three kids, Kingston, 18, Zuma, 15, and Apollo Rossdale, 10, also spend a lot of time in Oklahoma. While their father, Gavin Rossdale, still lives in LA, the kids have grown close to Shelton. A source told Us Weekly that Stefani’s sons see Shelton “as a father figure,” and he loves taking on the role of stepdad.
“Gwen’s sons are her whole world,” the source said. “If Blake hadn’t accepted them with his entire [soul], that would’ve been a deal breaker. It melts her heart to see him with the boys. Their family has blended perfectly.”
In addition to country living, Shelton has introduced Stefani and the kids to country music. “Kingston used to say that he hates it, but now he appreciates it much more,” the source continued.
Kingston has embraced country life, as he even gave a surprise solo performance at Blake Shelton’s Ole Red bar in Oklahoma in April 2023. Stefani’s oldest son seems to follow in his parents’ footsteps as a musician, and the family supports his endeavors.
Gavin Rossdale was worried about Zuma Rossdale getting into country music
Kingston Rossdale might be more willing to embrace country music thanks to Blake Shelton’s presence in his life — and so is Zuma Rossdale. However, their rockstar father, Gavin Rossdale, isn’t as accepting. Gavin spoke to Us Weekly in June 2024 about Zuma getting more into the country music genre.
“I do think I support him playing blues scales, which is the last thing I want to hear, anyway, in my house, really, to be honest,” Gavin told the publication. “Blues scales, and all that sort of … there’s a specific pentatonic scale that rock ‘n’ roll uses that we’ve never used in Bush. We don’t use that. We try and make it not that. So, he comes in, and goes, show us the pentatonic scale. I’m like, oh, God. So, it’s all good. That’s how much I love him. I will support him making any music, even the blues.”
Blake Shelton said Gwen Stefani’s kids thought Oklahoma was like ‘Disneyland’ compared to Los Angeles
Gwen Stefani’s kids are fully embracing country life. In 2022, Blake Shelton said that Stefani’s kids think of Oklahoma as Disneyland compared to LA.
“You know, it’s like Disneyland to them when they come out to Oklahoma because they live in LA, and living in LA has its perks … I guess,” Shelton told Country Radio Seminar in 2022. “But there’s not a lot of room to roam out there. You kind of have your yard or like a public park, which, these days, are not somewhere you necessarily want to go.”
Shelton said the boys didn’t know what to do when first visiting his ranch. “They can’t even imagine just going down to the creek with a net, or turning over rocks, or getting all buggy and driving around,” he said. “Now, it’s second nature to them.”
