Gwyneth Paltrow on Why She and Brad Pitt Didn’t Work Out
When it comes to Brad Pitt’s romantic life, all eyes remain fixated on his past relationships with Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie. Pitt and Aniston recently sent the internet ablaze after their heartwarming reunion at the SAG Awards and again during their star-studded table read of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. As for Pitt’s marriage to Jolie, those two have been on the cover of magazines since their Mr. and Mrs. Smith days and up through their more recent divorce and custody battle. Yet, Pitt has been in serious relationships with other A-list actors, including Gwyneth Paltrow.
Pitt and Paltrow dated from around 1994 to 1997. Their romance kickstarted on the set of 1995’s Se7en. After Pitt won the Golden Globe for 12 Monkeys, he thanked Paltrow and called her his “angel” and the “love of [his] life,” as EOnline recounts. Pitt proposed and the two were engaged briefly before calling it quits. Paltrow has since explained the factors that led to their breakup, placing most of the blame on herself.
Gwyneth Paltrow talks about Brad Pitt and what went wrong between them
As Entertainment Tonight reports, Paltrow dished on her past romance with Pitt during a sit-down with Howard Stern. She explained that she fell for the actor, but sometimes love just isn’t enough. She stated, “I definitely fell in love with him. He was so gorgeous and sweet. I mean he was Brad Pitt.”
When asked to explain how she figured out it wasn’t meant to be, how “you find you’re not right for each other,” she replied:
“I was such a kid. I was 22 when we met. And, it’s taken me until like 40 to get my head out of my ass. I wasn’t ready, and you know, he was too good for me.”

Paltrow and Pitt boast a decent age difference, as the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star is 8 years older than the Goop founder. And, 8 years often means people are in different life stages when it comes to people in their 20s and 30s.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s dad took her split from Brad Pitt rather hard
Paltrow indicates that she had to work some stuff out on an individual level before settling down. Yet, she was not the only one upset by their breakup. Paltrow notes that her father was devastated, saying:
“My father was so devastated when we broke up. My father loved him like a son.”
