Hall Dynasty in the House: Jaida Essence Hall’s Sister Sashays Into the ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 13 Workroom
“The Mackie Doll is out of her box!” Do we have any Halls in the house tonight? We do! After Jaida Essence Hall, the Essence of Beauty, dominated the competition and snatched the crown during season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, it is only right that one of her sisters comes right along behind her. Kahmora Hall, Jaida’s younger drag sister, is in the competition during season 13 and is giving us clavicles and doll realness! Will the crown remain with the Hall family for two seasons?
Kahmora Hall entered the workroom on season 13 of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ this week
Hall is big in the Chicago drag scene along with another season 13 queen, the ice skating princess, Denali. When she got the “porkchop,” Kahmora revealed to her other “porkchop” sisters that she was the younger sister of the season 12 winner
In a pre-season interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kahmora spoke about being on the show and being a member of the Hall family.
“We just had a really great drag mother,” she said in an interview with the publication. “The first thing she taught us was to be sweet and humble to everybody you meet. I’ve been doing drag for nine years now, and that’s the thing I try to do at every gig. Kindness takes you everywhere!” She gives kudos to their drag mother, Tamja Hall, who taught them well.
Tamja is also the drag mother of Naysha Lopez (RuPaul’s Drag Race season 8) and Dida Ritz (RuPaul’s Drag Race season 4), making her the drag sister of these queens as well. Furthering the family connection, Kahmora is also the drag mother of Soju, a drag queen and influencer who was the first eliminated contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11. Jaida also has a drag daughter, Becky Essence Hall.
The Hall family is back in the competition
Kahmora sashayed through the workroom wearing a Bob Mackie original, stunning fans, the judges and her fellow season 13 queens. She was a part of the three-way lip sync with Tina Burner and Elliott with Two Ts. Burner won the battle and Elliott with Two Ts and Kahmora got the “porkchop.”
After watching the premiere for herself, Kahmora gave some insight into her thought process on Twitter.
“I was so confident walking into the workroom, but as soon as the music started I blacked out,” she wrote in part. “Now that I’ve watched the lipsynch, I’m really proud of myself and once again overwhelmed by all of your love and support.” Though Hall got the “Porkchop” this definitely isn’t the end of this twist and we’ll see Hall again beginning next week.
RuPaul’s Drag Race airs Friday nights on VH1.
