Halle Berry Reveals She Got Into Fights With ‘X-Men’ Director, Bryan Singer
The franchise of X-Men looks different now and may change again. But fans will always remember the first generation of the movies. Halle Berry reflected on her time working with director, Bryan Singer and said she got into fights with him.
The role of Storm was re-cast after Halle Berry
Berry played Storm in four X-Men movies. Her last one was X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014. It looks like she still had hope of playing that character after that movie in 2015 when Deadline asked if she would do a Storm movie.
“In a heartbeat,” she answered. “In a heartbeat I would do a Storm movie. I love that character through and through. So if that ever became an opportunity for me if it’s before I’m 65-years old I would absolutely do that.”
The role was re-cast with Alexandra Shipp given the new timeline of the franchise’s story. That means X-Men: Days of Future Past was the last movie for many actors. It was also the last movie Singer directed for the franchise.
She said she got into fights with Bryan Singer
Berry recently opened up about her experience working with Singer. She talked about struggling while working with him.
“Bryan’s not the easiest dude to work with,” she told Variety. “I mean, everybody’s heard the stories — I don’t have to repeat them — and heard of his challenges, and what he struggles with.”
She went on to talk about her emotions during that time. “I would sometimes be very angry with him,” she said. “I got into a few fights with him, said a few cuss words out of sheer frustration. When I work, I’m serious about that. And when that gets compromised, I get a little nutty.”
Berry talked about a specific situation that made her frustrated. “He didn’t feel there,” she later said. “And we’re outside in our little X-Men stage freezing our a** off in Banff, Canada, with subzero weather and he’s not focusing. And we’re freezing. You might get a little mad.”
There is a report about one of the fights
It wasn’t a secret that things were tense between the cast and Singer. The Hollywood Reporter reported Singer defiantly went forward with shooting a scene with the main cast in the X Jet without a stunt coordinator present. A stunt reportedly went wrong and Hugh Jackman started bleeding from an injury on camera.
Producer Tom DeSanto reportedly then stopped production. The next day the multiple main cast members reportedly confronted Singer at his trailer. “You can kiss my Black a**,” Berry reportedly told him.
Singer’s rep denied this story to The Hollywood Reporter. It sounds like Berry has no problem being open about her experience with Singer years after being done with the role.
