The horror slasher sub-genre is always looking for new ways to unleash their carnage. Slasher audiences enjoy when their movies include inventive kill sequences. Halloween killer Michael Myers’ chef’s knife is his iconic weapon, but his brutality has only increased in modern installments. Halloween Kills promises much more brutal kills, but one up-and-coming firefighter has created a petition to remove one violent sequence in particular.

The Halloween revival started with David Gordon Green’s 2018 movie. It’s the first installment in a trilogy that ignores the original continuity after the 1978 classic. The story made large changes, especially regarding Michael and Laurie Strode’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) connection. Critics and audiences gave the revival generally positive reviews.

Halloween Kills is the second installment, with Halloween Ends meant to close out the trilogy in 2022. The Halloween Kills trailer shows Michael slaughtering a firefighter crew in front of a burning house. Next, it includes angry mobs and three Strode generations of strong women who seek to put an end to Michael’s rampage once and for all.

A Change petition appeared to address Halloween Kills. It demands the movie’s firefighter slaughter sequence to be removed from the movie. The goal is set to 500 signatures, but the creator is hoping to make more noise for their cause.

“It is wrong because firefighters have been lured to houses fire and murdered by the person who set the fire,” the petition reads. “And it’s wrong that Michael killed the firefighters with the gear from the other firefighters he killed.”

The writer specifies that they are a soon-to-be firefighter, which is partially why they find the footage to be offensive. “As a soon-to-be firefighter I find it very offensive and so does my mom and dad who are retired firefighters,” they continued. “So I want that scene taken out of the movie.”

The petition-writer explains how they believe the scene should have played out. “Michael didn’t have to kill them in a way they saved him so he should have saved the two firefighters in the house and went on his way to kill sister,” the petition describes. “There is no reason for that horrible disgusting scene.”

Halloween Kills fans have responded to the petition with largely negative comments. Some of the comments are unnecessarily harsh, but others take the opportunity to address the petition. Most of the feedback refers to the fact that it’s just a movie and shouldn’t be taken so seriously. However, there are some comments that agree with the petition’s sentiments and want the scene removed from the movie.

It’s not the first time that Michael has gone on a killing rampage. He’s killed police officers, babysitters, and has even attempted to kill children. However, creating a comment requires a petition signature, which is simply supporting a cause that these folks claim to deny.

Halloween Kills is slashing into theaters and will be playing on Peacock day-and-date on Oct. 15.
