‘Halloween Kills’ Star Jamie Lee Curtis Dressed as Her Mother’s Iconic Character From ‘Psycho’ During the Movie’s Red Carpet Event
Jamie Lee Curtis just paid the ultimate tribute to her mother. She appeared on the red carpet for the October 12, 2021 movie premiere of Halloween Kills dressed as Janet Leigh’s tragic character from Psycho. Here are the details on an instantly iconic red carpet appearance.
Jamie Lee Curtis of ‘Halloween Kills’ has starred in the franchise since 1978
Curtis had an early start in horror movies. At just 19 years old, she played ill-fated babysitter Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s Halloween. Additionally, she defined a trope as one of the first-ever ‘final girls’ in the horror genre.
Forty-three years later in Halloween Kills, she’s still fighting off iconic slasher Michael Myers in Halloween Kills. Moreover, the Halloween franchise remains one of the most formidable franchises in the genre.
Jamie Lee Curtis played Laurie Strode in four previous Halloween movies: John Carpenter’s original Halloween (1978,) Halloween II (1981,) Halloween H20:20 Years Later (1988,) and Halloween (2018).
Furthermore, Halloween Kills is about to hit theaters on October 15, 2021. Finally, she will head up what is presumably the final installment of the franchise, Halloween Ends, to be released on October 14, 2022.
Per Variety, Curtis spoke to how her character has evolved at the Venice Film Festival. She received a Lifetime Achievement Award there in September 2021.
“The beauty of human beings is we change,” she said during a press conference. “We are battered and bruised, and we emerge and we grow – our bones heal, we move forward.”
She added that Halloween Kills fans “relate to Laurie because you are wounded too and you are fighting back against the demons in your life, and that you somehow look at me and Laurie and say, ‘I am Laurie.’”
Curtis’ mother, Janet Leigh, is also a horror icon
Horror fans are keenly aware that Jamie Lee Curtis’ mother, Janet Leigh is also a horror icon. She starred as Marion Crane in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 horror masterpiece Psycho. Additionally, Curtis’ father is screen legend Tony Curtis of Billy Wilder’s 1959 comedy Some Like it Hot.
At the red carpet premiere for Halloween Kills, Curtis appeared on the red carpet dressed as her mother’s character. With blonde, curly hair, a flounced, light blue button-down ‘50’s dress, and a retro belt cinched at the waist, Curtis appeared every inch the legend that her late mother is. Moreover, she carried a bloodied shower curtain — a nod to the famously terrifying shower scene.
Despite the gruesome horror scene reference, Jamie Lee Curtis was all smiles at the premiere, held at Hollywood’s legendary TCL Chinese Theater. Halloween Kills lands in theaters tomorrow, October 15, 2021.
