‘Harry Potter’ Star Rupert Grint Dressed in Drag to Make a Fan Happy—’I Was in Full Heels and a Feather Boa’
Celebrities can have many different kinds of interactions with fans. Some celebrities are known for being cold and aloof towards fans, or even downright mean. Other celebrities have a reputation for being kind to their fans and have a record of positive interactions. But there are also celebrities who go above and beyond to make fans happy.
Among the celebrities with this reputation is the star of Servant, Rupert Grint. Grint has a reputation for kindness in a general sense: he’s had many positive interactions with his fans, and on top of that he’s made several significant donations to charity. But he has one experience with fans that stands out from the rest. What exactly was this experience that was so unique?
Rupert Grint got famous as a child actor
Grint got famous in the early 2000s when he was only 13 years old, but he exploded into fame playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films. Though the Harry Potter franchise has been tarnished due to its creator’s, JK Rowling’s, affiliation with hate movements, it remains popular, and many of the films’ actors have disavowed Rowling and the views she represents.
Though Grint will probably be best known for this role throughout his career, he’s had other major roles since. As of 2022, he’s starring in Servant, a psychological thriller from M. Night Shyamalan airing on Apple TV, and he’s set to star in an anthology series from horror icon Guillermo del Toro entitled Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, which may start airing in 2022.
Rupert Grint got dolled up in drag for some fans
According to Us Magazine, Grint has a soft spot for his fans and doesn’t like to turn down requests from them. He talked about this in Harry Potter costar Tom Felton’s documentary Tom Felton Meets the Superfans in 2015. Apparently, he’s had multiple odd situations involving fans, and one involved a fan who was a drag queen.
I met this drag queen and went back to her little flat with all her drag queen friends because I couldn’t say no. They dressed me up and we went to get bagels at 4 a.m. I was in full heels and [a] feather boa. It was really weird.
It may have been odd, but it’s definitely a unique experience! And it really shows an actor who’s willing to go above and beyond to leave a positive impact on his fans.
Other celebrities have some wild fan stories
Grint isn’t the only celebrity who is willing to go to great lengths for his fans. Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, known for playing Jaime Lannister, was involved in a fan’s proposal! According to Coster-Waldau, he was given a note by the fiance and found it a bit awkward, but ultimately more sweet than anything.
Aubrey Plaza, who played April Ludgate on Parks and Recreation, apparently has fans that want her to be mean to them following her character on the show. She was apparently offered $20 to punch a man in the face at a bar! Similarly, Jodi Comer, who plays serial killer Villanelle on Killing Eve, was asked to strangle a fan! (She declined.)
Other stories involve some strange gifts. Tween idol band The Jonas Brothers received a dead baby shark in a test tube, which is almost as weird as Jared Leto, who received a fan’s cut off ear in the mail! He ended up turning it into a necklace. It’s clear that some fans have some really intense feelings about their favorite celebrities.
