Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a 2001 book based on the Harry Potter world, and the magical creatures that can be found in it. A film based on this book came out in 2016, starring Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Jon Voight, Colin Farrell, and more.

Two years later, a sequel titled Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald came out, adding Zoë Kravitz to the cast. A third and final film in the spinoff series is set to be released on Nov. 12, 2021.

What the ‘Harry Potter’ TV series at HBO Max is reportedly like

A Harry Potter TV series is reportedly in “early development” at HBO Max, per The Hollywood Reporter. The outlet reported that “multiple conversations with potential writers exploring various ideas” have taken place. While the specific story, characters, and era have not been solidified, the mere idea that a Harry Potter series could be coming to a major streamer is nonetheless exciting to fans.

However, even though THR reported that a Harry Potter project is in early development, the site also included this statement from HBO Max and Warner Brothers: “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.”

If there are those early development conversations though, it makes sense to keep it tight under wraps until ideas, writers, or actors are attached to the project.

Fans on Twitter responded to the news by asking for a Marauders series. The Marauders in Harry Potter refer to James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew, the friend group of Harry’s dad, that attended Hogwarts in the 1970s. This timeline would also include beloved characters such as Lily Evans [Potter], Severus Snape, Lucius Malfoy, and Bellatrix Lestrange as students.

“I would love a series about Lily [and] James [and] Snape as students,” one person wrote.

“I really want something with the Marauders,” another person added.

People also vocalized their wish for the series’ author, J.K. Rowling, to not be involved financially or creatively in a potential spinoff project due to her transphobic remarks in the past.

“Long as [Rowling] gets absolutely nothing out of it I’m in. Otherwise, nah,” one fan tweeted.

Another Twitter user asked for trans actors to be included and at the forefront. “I hope they hire lots of [trans actors] to play most of the roles!”

While this news is not yet fully confirmed as moving forward at the streamer, we can’t help but be excited about the potential Harry Potter TV series to come.
