Warner Bros. has officially released the first trailer for Don’t Worry Darling, which was first shared at CinemaCon 2022. After the trailer debuted at CinemaCon, many were buzzing about the graphic moments between Styles and Pugh, who play a couple living in an experimental utopian community. While these moments are hinted at in the trailer, the trailer also hints at the more sinister aspects of this story.

In addition to Pugh and Styles, the cast also includes Wilde, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, Sydney Chandler, Kiki Layne, and Nick Kroll. Here is the official synopsis for Don’t Worry Darling shared by Warner Bros:

“Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles) are lucky to be living in Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. Life is perfect, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause. But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning what they’re doing in Victory, and why. Just how much is Alice willing to lose to expose what’s really going on in paradise?”

The first trailer for ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ previews Olivia Wilde’s second directorial film

Wilde has always been a talented actor, but she gained recognition as an equally-as-talented director after her coming of age comedy, Booksmart. Starring Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein, the comedy followed two high school seniors who are trying to have one more night of fun before going to college.

Switching from comedy to thriller, Wilde cited movies like Fatal Attraction, Inception, The Matrix, and The Truman Show as inspirations for Don’t Worry Darling. During her presentation at CinemaCon shared by Variety, Wilde called the movie “a love letter to movies that push the boundaries of our imagination.”

“I want you to imagine a life where you have everything you could want,” Wilde explained. “Not just material, tangible things… like a beautiful house, perfect weather and gorgeous cars. But also the things that really matter, like true love or the perfect partner or real trusted friendships and a purpose that feels meaningful.”

The upcoming thriller is the first starring role for Harry Styles

While Pugh is the main character of Don’t Worry Darling, it is worth noting that this is the first major starring role for Styles. The Grammy-winning singer did have a small role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. He also recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Eros, during a post-credit scene in Eternals

Meanwhile, Pugh continues to be one of the biggest rising stars in Hollywood. Her recent roles in Black Widow, Midsommar, Fighting with My Family, and Little Women have proven that she is one of the best young actors in the business.

Don’t Worry Darling arrives in theaters on Sept. 23, 2022.
