In fact, things could be too much even for Hannah Brown, the Bachelorette herself. She recently caught viewers by surprise when she said that she was considering quitting the show.

But is that possible? Has anyone ever actually quit while being a Bachelorette or a Bachelor? Read on below to find out.

Why did Hannah Brown say she wants to quit?

It seems that, while having drama is important for television ratings, having too much drama would take the focus away from the reason why everyone is there in the first place – to find love.

Brown’s season has been filled with all kinds of ups and downs. In the first episode alone, she found out that one of the contestants, Scott Andersen, had a girlfriend. And more recently, she’s had to deal with Luke Parker and all of his villain-like shenanigans.

As such, Hannah Brown’s quest for love seems to have taken a backseat to the drama on the show. During week six, she revealed to host Chris Harrison that she still hasn’t had time to figure out her feelings yet.

“I don’t know if I will [get there],” Brown said. “I see that there are relationships here that like, really could be it for me. But I’m not going to settle and just go into something if it’s not where it needs to be”

She also shared that at the moment she already “lost a lot of hope.” However, Brown is not walking away yet and she is determined to “see this thing through until the end.”

Has a ‘Bachelorette’ ever quit before?

In the 38 seasons of the Bachelorette and Bachelor franchise, no Bachelorette or Bachelor has ever quit the show.

Some people seemed to have come quite close, however, such as in the case of Colton Underwood who famously jumped the fence after Cassie Randolph broke up with him. Yet, Underwood returned later and no one has ever seriously left the series.

There are some possible reasons for this. It could be that Bachelorettes and Bachelors have contractual obligations to fulfill. The network relies on them keep the show going, so they are not allowed to just leave because things are a bit hard. Or, even through all the drama and heartbreaks, perhaps no one has found the situation bad enough to quit for real.

How many contestants have left ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘The Bachelorette’?

On the other hand, many contestants have left in the middle of the series before. Since there are usually many contestants and the show can still go on without one or two people, it’s actually a common occurrence. Every season tends to have at least one person who voluntarily quits.

Contestants have decided to leave for all sorts of reasons, such as not having that much feelings for the Bachelor/Bachelorette, not being ready for commitment, or finding themselves falling in love with someone else. Sometimes, they also quit because of their job since many contestants who go on the show end up taking a break from their actual career, which doesn’t always sit well with their bosses.

So far, there have been 21 contestants who left on their own – including the most recent Luke Stone from Hannah Brown’s season. He left after having conflicts with Luke Parker.

The season with the most amount of self-eliminations was Colton Underwood’s. There were three people who took themselves out of the running throughout the course of the show.

We will have to wait and see what Hannah Brown decides to do. Hopefully everything will work out and she will find love on The Bachelorette.
