Hasbro’s Baby Yoda Toys Have ‘The Mandalorian’ Fans Excited
Baby Yoda was the breakout star of The Mandalorian and he was all anyone could talk about during the first season of the show. As soon as his adorable little face peaked out of his floating bassinet, fans were hooked and immediately began looking for merchandise. Luckily, a variety of “The Child” inspired products are coming this year, including a new Hasbro Baby Yoda toy line that fans can’t wait to get their hands on.
Who is Baby Yoda?
Baby Yoda — whose official name is The Child (at least for now) — took Star Wars fans by surprise when he appeared on the first episode of The Mandalorian. His appearance ignited a whole new Star Wars fandom, with its own Reddit board and tons of hilarious memes.
In Episode 1 of The Mandalorian, Mando is given a bounty by someone (known as “The Client”) from the Empire and is tasked with bringing The Child back to him. Mando doesn’t know how or why The Child is important, but rather than give him up to the Empire, he decides to protect it and return it to its homeworld. The Child’s backstory is still unknown, but his resemblance to Yoda and his telekinetic and healing abilities imply he has the Force of the Jedi.
Fans have been on the hunt for ‘The Mandalorian’ merchandise
When The Mandalorian premiered last November, there wasn’t much show-related merchandise available. As fans began to fall in love with the character, memes were born and the demand for Baby Yoda toys and apparel grew.
But luckily for fans, 2020 is the year of The Mandalorian merchandise. Hasbro announced a whole new line of toys, including an Animatronic “The Child” Plush that talks and coos, closes its eyes to sleep, and wears Mando’s signature necklace. The toy company will also release a toy vehicle line which features Baby Yoda in his floating bassinet, as well as a show-inspired version of their Operation board game.
Fans are hyped about the new Baby Yoda toys
Disney unveiled the new Hasbro toy line at an event in New York City ahead of the 2020 Toy Fair. After Good Morning America debuted the toys on-air, fans hit Twitter to talk about just how adorable they are.
“Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness! Who else is going to be lining up for one of these?” wrote one Twitter fan. “Look at Baby Yoda go!! He coos, wiggles his ears, brings his arm up to use the force and more!! How realistic and adorable is he!?” wrote another user.
One fan tweeted that the “Hasbro talking Baby Yoda” has their “wallet SCREAMING.“
There’s also a new The Mandalorian Operation Board Game that has fans both confused and excited. “Wow, a Baby Yoda Operation game. I’m gonna wait for the invasive surgery version tho,” wrote one user.
Another fan pointed out that the game won’t require players to do surgery. “Baby Yoda Operation Game, but you stop Baby Yoda from touching everything on the ship,” the user tweeted. “I want this.”
It’s clear that fans are anxiously waiting to get their hands on all the Mandalorian inspired merchandise they can. Some of Hasbro’s The Child toys, including the Animatronic Plush, are available for preorder from major retailers and will ship later this year.
