‘Haunted Mansion’ is based on the famous Disney ride

The movie, like the iteration from 2003, is based on the Haunted Mansion ride which debuted in 1969. Today, it is a major attraction at both Disneyland and Disney World. The ride-through tour in Omnimover vehicles takes the park goers through a creepy and scary manor. The tour is laid with different supernatural characters that appear and attempt to frighten the visitors.

Some of the well-known characters in the Haunted Mansion ride are Madame Leota, the spirit of the psychic medium, the skeletal bride, and the Hatbox Ghost with a cloak. These characters, combined with theatrical and modern special effects make the tour a spooky and fan-favorite attraction for park-goers.

Over the years, versions of the Haunted Mansion have popped up in other Disney theme parks across the globe too. With such a popular attraction on their hands, it’s no wonder that Disney tried to replicate the experience on screen.

While the 2003 Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy performed decently at the box office, some other movies that were inspired by park rides, like Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise have done better.

At a time when nostalgic recreation is all the buzz, Disney is giving the Haunted Mansion movie a second shot. How the movie will do this time, will only be revealed later.
