The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Clint Barton is not known to be an overly optimistic, bright person. As a matter of fact, he’s the exact opposite. And in the new Marvel Disney+ series, Hawkeye, he seems to have fully taken on the grumpy old man persona. But, in the comic books, Hawkeye’s costume didn’t reflect his MCU personality. So, Clint’s costume in the MCU has strayed far away from the original version. But he might return to it in the new show.

Clint’s Hawkeye costume in the comics is bright and colorful

The original comic book version of Hawkeye’s costume is bright blue and purple, and it’s quite boisterous. He even has purple boots. And its defining feature is a purple headpiece with a huge “H” on the front of his forehead. Plus, of course, he has a purple quiver slung around his back.

As far as superhero suits go, Clint’s costume is quite normal. It just protects his identity and distinguishes him from the other crime-fighting superheroes.

Over the years, Hawkeye’s costume has evolved to become more modern. But the original suit has a special place in many comic book fans’ hearts.

How Hawkeye’s costume was updated for the MCU

While Clint Barton’s Hawkeye costume usually is bright blue and purple in the comic books, in the MCU, the character sports a much darker suit.

Clint’s superhero outfit very much reflects his character’s personality, plus it was updated to be a bit more modern. For one thing, he has a high-tech quiver that appears to have an endless supply of arrows. But the costume is primarily black leather, and there’s nothing extraordinary about it.

Sometimes the suit contains a bit of dark purple in it as a nod to the comics. But all of Hawkeye’s costumes throughout his time in the MCU have never been similar to the original version.

New promo for ‘Hawkeye’ references Clint’s original comic book suit

Jeremy Renner, who plays Clint Barton, is finally getting his own project in the MCU. Every other original Avenger has starred in their individual movie, and now, Clint has his own television show.

The synopsis for Hawkeye reads, “While in New York City post-Blip, Clint Barton must work together with the young archer Kate Bishop to confront enemies from his past as Ronin in order to get back to his family in time for Christmas.”

Per ComicBook.com, in one of the trailers for Hawkeye, Kate has a few ideas for an upgrade to Clint’s costume. She shows him a sketch she drew of a possible suit, and, of course, it looks exactly like Hawkeye’s costume in the comic books. And in another video posted by the show’s Twitter page, Jeremy Renner shows off his new suit for Hawkeye. We don’t know if this was one of Kate’s designs, but it definitely features more purple than ever before.

The first two episodes of Hawkeye premieres on Nov. 24 on Disney+.
