Marvel dropped its first trailer for its upcoming Hawkeye series on Disney+ today and it looks like there’s a lot to be excited about. Here are a few things from the trailer that should have you looking forward to the new series.

Clint and Kate’s dynamic in ‘Hawkeye

Throughout the trailer, we see Clint (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) doing a lot of joking around. For example, Kate tells Clint, “Some people have actually called me the world’s greatest archer,” and Clint says, “Are you one of those people?”

Fans have speculated that the series will be inspired by Matt Fraction and David Aja’s 2012 Hawkeye comics. In that series, and elsewhere in the comics world, the two characters have a similar dynamic.

They’re constantly making fun of one another and cracking jokes. It’s endearing, and it’s a large part of what makes Fraction and Aja’s comics so memorable. If the series goes in the same direction with their relationship, it will be a lot of fun to watch.

Clint dealing with his past

When Thanos snaps his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War, Clint’s wife and children are among those who get dusted. And as we wee in Avengers: Endgame, Clint has a pretty tough time dealing with his grief. He becomes Ronin, violently hunting down prominent players in the criminal underground.

And now, it looks like he’s going to have to own up to the things he did during that time. Early in the trailer, we hear a newscaster say, “Authorities are wondering if the masked vigilante who terrorized the city’s underworld is back.” We then hear Clint say, “The past has caught up with me.”

During Endgame, of course, Clint doesn’t have a lot of time to process or make amends for the things he does as Ronin. So it will be interesting to see him finally making amends for that period of his life. How will he explain that dark period to his children? And how will he square it with his time as an Avenger?

Hawkeye hanging out with his family

It will be exciting to see Clint with his kids (though notably not his wife in the trailer) for a couple of reasons. First, he hasn’t had a lot of time to spend with them during his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even before Infinity War, his family life was suffering. They were basically kept hidden away at the Barton family farmhouse for safety reasons. So getting to see him finally have some quality time will be really nice.

Also, his family members haven’t had much character development of their own over the years. They’ve basically served as devices to create emotional turmoil for Clint. It will be interesting to find out more about what these characters are like, as they hopefully become more fleshed out in the series.

It’s a holiday series

The fact that the series will be set around the holidays bumps up the fun even more. Who doesn’t love New York during the holidays? Having a festive NYC as the backdrop for all of the archery and crime-fighting adds another dimension to the series tonally.

In addition, having it set around the holidays is a great way to drive home the fact that Clint is really trying to improve his family life. He promises them in the trailer that he’ll be home for Christmas. We’re sure to see some tension between his relationship with his family and his professional life. And having it take place around the time when he would be expected to make time for family celebrations heightens that tension.

What will happen with ‘Black Widow’s’ Yelena Belova?

Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) is set to appear in the series. She quickly became a fan-favorite during Black Widow. And she is supposedly going to be an antagonist of Clint and Kate’s.

That makes sense, given that Black Widow’s post-credits scene has Contessa Valentina Alelgra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) telling Yelena that Clint is the one who killed Natasha.

As we know from Endgame, that’s not the whole truth. When Yelena figures out that she’s being manipulated by Val, will she switch sides and team up with Kate and Clint in some way? It seems likely since Yelena is being primed to become one of the MCU’s new Avengers. But fans will have to wait and see how it all plays you.

Hawkeye is set to premiere on Disney+ on November 24.
