Uproxx shared one of her recounts when she described what led to the impromptu and hilarious ad-libbed moment. Remember when Evans stepped out of the super-soldier pod with his beefy new bod for the first time?
Atwell remembers it well since it was the first time she’d actually seen her co-star without a shirt on. In the movie, fans see Peggy Carter’s reaction to a hunky Steve Rogers as total awe. And she hilariously reaches up and taps him on his chiseled and well-sculpted chest. It was a natural reaction the internet still thanks her for and an impulse move that proved to be a funny ad-libbed moment. Watch Mojo even named this scene one of the “best unscripted MCU moments.”
What Atwell’s said about her role since
Atwell reprised her Peggy Carter character in several MCU films. After The First Avenger, she made cameo appearances in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and even Ant-Man. But most connected with her via the ABC series, Agent Carter, where Atwell continued her story post-The First Avenger. But fans still wanted more.
During a CBR interview, Atwell said she wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to Peggy Carter. And when asked about whether or not Marvel would be pursuing a special or movie, Atwell responded, “give me a movie!” Though fans saw her get her happily ever after in Avengers: Endgame, that still wasn’t the end of her story.

Things didn’t end well for her upon an encounter with the Scarlet Witch. But while this ending seems final, fans may not have seen the last of Captain Carter or Atwell. Given that the multiverse remains a factor, shows like What If…? have brought back deceased characters. So there are a host of different scenarios that will make it possible for Atwell to remain a pivotal part of the MCU story even beyond a few occasional appearances.
