One critic wrote “WHO IS DRESSING THESE PPL! I mean come on with this fashion already!” Another said “Don’t like a single one! Weird.” The Instagram account @queensofbravo posted a similar collage of reunion outfits, with fans leaving comments like “Was the theme ‘dress your worst’?”
Memes started making the rounds on social media, with some fans comparing Jen Shah’s purple feathered gown to the character Yzma from the Disney film The Emperor’s New Groove. Out of all the outfits, however, it is Gay’s off-the-shoulder blue dress that ignited the biggest social media firestorm. Certainly, Gay’s discount dress isn’t the norm for housewives fashion. Many fans are used to seeing the reality stars rock expensive looks that can only be found on designer racks.
Fans have mixed opinions on Gay’s dress, with The Sun noting that some fans commented things like “I love heather but she’s dressed like the mother of the bride.” Others called the dress “tacky” and “hideous.”
Some had good things to say about Gay’s dress, though, with one comment on the @queensofbravo post noting “Heather is the only one who looks good – classic timeless.” Another wrote “Heather is giving mother of the bride…but I also love it.” Clearly, some fans are open to the introduction of inexpensive fashion in the Real Housewives franchise, even if they also love the glamour that has become so enmeshed in the culture of the series.
