Henry Cavill Began Filming Apple’s ‘Argylle’ in the U.K.
Henry Cavill has an extensive career that spans years, but his role as Superman in the DC Extended Universe truly put him out there. The star gained worldwide recognition for his role as Man of Steel, and the performance seems to have landed him several opportunities. In recent years, the star has been busy working on several projects, with his latest one, Argylle, having begun filming in the U.K.
Henry Cavill was open to being the next James Bond
Henry Cavill has already proven that he has what it takes to be Agent 007. His diversified career has helped the star establish a name for himself, proving that he can easily pull off being a superhero and also kicking ass as a superspy, as seen in his roles in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
Although his name has been floated in recent times for the role of James Bond, fans will be pleased to know that he almost landed the role. Back in 2006, when auditions were being held for Casino Royale, the actor and Daniel Craig were the top contenders for the role. While his audition went great, the directors chose Craig over Cavill for the simple reason that Bond is known for; his agility.
The directors cited “out of shape” as to why they didn’t choose Cavill for the role. While you’d expect that such comments would discourage anyone who just missed out on the part of a lifetime, Cavill took them as suggestions to get into shape. In hindsight, the actor was thankful for the directors turning him down, saying that it helped him land his career-changing roles.
Despite his gratitude for missing out on the role, Cavill still feels up to it, saying he would jump on it if offered. Several actors have been suggested for the part, including Idris Elba and Robert Armitage, but Cavill seems to have edged both of these famous actors out as fans think he is best suited for it.
Cavill’s new spy movie ‘Argylle’ has begun filming
Henry Cavill’s chances of playing Bond seem stretched, but that doesn’t mean he won’t ever get to play a superspy. As Deadline reports, the actor joined the star-studded cast of Argylle, playing the title character who’s also known as the “world’s greatest spy” as he globe-trots around the world in a thrilling adventure.
The movie is based on the soon-to-be-released novel of the same name by Ellie Conway. Cavill will join other legendary actors, including Catherine O’Hara, Samuel L. Jackson, and Bryce Dallas Howard, with singer Dua Lipa making her acting debut and providing original scores.
Argylle is set to drop in 2022, and as KFTV News reports, filming has already begun in the U.K. The site mentions that the film will use three studios: Park Royal, Greenford, and Bovingdon, with the cast and crew already having shot some scenes in Greece and the U.S.
Henry Cavill’s schedule is jam-packed
Henry Cavill might not be the next 007, but that doesn’t seem to have slowed him down. The star has found luck with Netflix as he has worked on two of the streaming giant’s productions. He started appearing in Netflix’s The Witcher in 2019, playing the lead, Geralt of Rivia, a role which has garnered him critical acclaim.
His role in the franchise has also helped Cavill solidify his name in Hollywood, essentially turning him into the face of the show. He also got a chance to work with the streamer a second time on Enola Holmes, where he played the great sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, for which he is set to reprise in its sequel.
Earlier this year, Cavill teased his fans about his involvement in the yet-to-be-defined adaptation of Mass Effect. He is also set to appear in the Highlander reboot in an undefined role.
