Here’s Everything We Know About Netflix’s Upcoming Adam Sandler Film, ‘Hubie Halloween’
Though he didn’t get an Oscar nomination for Uncut Gems, Adam Sandler is undeterred. He’s back at it and has just inked a new deal with Netflix to continue to star in films for the service. One of his upcoming films is Hubie Halloween.
Adam Sandler said he would continue making bad movies if he didn’t get an Oscar for ‘Uncut Gems’
During the early awards season campaigning for his role in Uncut Gems, Sandler threatened in an interview he would make a really bad movie if he didn’t get an Oscar nomination. Though fans may have liked them, Sandler’s Netflix movies have low ratings with critics.
“If I don’t get it, I’m going to f****g come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay. That’s how I get them,” he said in the interview.
Many on Twitter applauded Sandler and agreed that he should be incensed if he didn’t get an Oscar nomination.
“Adam Sandler threatened to give us a bad movie if he didn’t get awards. They testing his gangsta rn,” one person tweeted.
Someone else said, “I’m excited for Adam Sandler’s out-of-spite bad movie now that I know that he also makes very good movies.”
When the Oscar nominations were revealed, another person tweeted, “I’ve been awake for all of two minutes, i’m so sick i can barely move, and i see that adam sandler is not nominated for best actor.”
The actors who ended up getting nominations were Antonio Banderas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Driver, Joaquin Phoenix and Jonathan Pryce. Phoenix is very heavily favored to be the frontrunner.
Who will star in ‘Hubie Halloween’ and what is it about
Sandler signed a new Netflix deal which ensures that he stars in four more films for the streaming service. The news was announced the same day Uncut Gems hit Netflix in areas outside of the U.S. (the streaming service is the film’s international distributor).
In a press release, Netflix said, “Our members love all things Sandler. They have spent a whopping two billion hours watching his films since 2015 — the year that The Ridiculous 6 premiered — proving there’s no such thing as too much Sandler.”
“Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him. They love his stories and his humor, as we saw with Murder Mystery. So I could not be more excited to extend our partnership with Adam and the Happy Madison team and deliver more laughs around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer.
Sandler’s next Netflix film, which was announced before his Netflix re-up, is Hubie Halloween. The film will also star Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta, Maya Rudolph, Rob Schneider, Kenan Thompson, Steve Buscemi, Michael Chiklis, Tim Meadows, and Noah Schnapp.
According to Observer, the film is a whodunnit that finds “community volunteer Hubie Dubois (Sandler) finds himself at the center of a real murder case on Halloween night. Despite his devotion to his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts (and its legendary Halloween celebration), Hubie is a figure of mockery for kids and adults alike. But this year, something really is going bump in the night, and it’s up to Hubie to save Halloween.”
But regardless of the plot, is clear that the film will be a hilariously good time in a similar vein of the actor and comedian’s past Netflix work.
