HGTV Star Christina Anstead Slams Critics Calling Her an ‘Absent Mother’
Christina Anstead is one of the beloved stars of HGTV. The reality TV personality is the star of her own show called Christina on the Coast and rose to fame thanks to Flip or Flop. Christina has been making headlines lately after she confirmed she had split from her husband Ant Anstead after less than two years of marriage. The interior designer has been facing backlash and some critics are calling her an “absent mother.”
Christina Anstead defends herself from the backlash
The TV host has been busy filming a new season of Christina on the Coast where she redesigns spaces in people’s homes. News of her divorce from Ant was a bombshell for fans that were surprised to learn the marriage was having issues.
The couple had a baby together and fans have been getting updates of little Hudson thanks to Ant. Every day, Ant’s followers are treated to cute moments from little Hudzo but Christina has been away from updating her social media. This has led some people to believe Christina has been an absent parent, which she denies in a new Instagram post.
“This year has been incredibly isolating,” Christina started on Instagram. “Activities like church, travel, dinner, movies, sports- canceled. No longer seeing my friends smiling faces onset (all covered by masks) it all feels like sh**. So many changes for so many people.”
Christina is struggling just like everyone else facing the changes brought on by the pandemic. However, she is not here for anybody criticizing her for what she posts online.
“Despite what you see on Instagram most people are struggling,” she continued. “When I get told, ‘you must be an absent mother because you are not with your kids,’ – smh wake up people. I hardly post anymore … and I [definitely] do not want to post my kids every freaking day to make it a contest of who’s a better parent, f– that.”
Christina Anstead doesn’t want to be shamed
Christina wanted to convey to her fans that just because she doesn’t share all the moments she spends with her children, doesn’t mean she’s absent.
“This doesn’t mean I’m not with my kids – it means the opposite – I am with them- I’m present,” she continued. “So stop parent shaming people, stop choosing sides when there is no side to choose. My point being – when you see stuff on here take it all with a grain of salt. There is a whole lot of Filters and fake smiles. I’ve been guilty of faking it too. We are all struggling – some of us are just better at ‘masking’ it.”
Christina Anstead never imagined having ‘2 baby daddies’
Shortly after Christina announced her split from Ant back in September, the HGTV personality had already faced backlash. At the time she handled the criticism by “reintroducing” herself to all her fans. Christina knew that her Instagram profile was getting a lot of attention and decided to be open with her followers.
In her post she reveals that she never dreamed of becoming a celebrity after her show with her former husband Tarek El Moussa turned out to be a hit. She said that she still struggles with the fame that comes from appearing on TV but says she’s grateful for the opportunities she has gotten since.
“Sometimes our calling is bigger than our plans,” she posted on Instagram. “I never thought I would have one divorce let alone two. I never thought I would have 2 baby daddies – but sometimes life throws us curve balls. Instead of getting stuck in these ‘setbacks,’ I choose to look at these challenges as opportunities to grow.”
What Christina wants is not to be judged for a decision people don’t know why it was taken and encouraged everyone to be kind and support one another.
