‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ is a Disney+ original series

Once Disney+ launched during November 2019, the streaming platform included a slew of original television shows and documentaries, including the highly-anticipated live-action Star Wars series, entitled The Mandalorian and the documentary series, One Day at Disney.

One spin-off included all-new characters, but the same beloved songs from the Disney Channel movie, High School Musical. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiered on Nov. 12, 2019, and launched 10 episodes on a weekly basis.

Will ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ have a season 2?

Now with the entire first season available for binge-watching on this television show on Disney+, some fans are wondering if the show has been renewed for its second season. According to Newsweek, the series is officially renewed for its second season. Season 2 will likely premiere during fall 2021, about a year after the premiere of season 1.

“We are incredibly excited to bring the next chapter of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series to Disney+,” Disney+ president of content and marketing Ricky Strauss said in a statement. “Tim [Federle, executive producer] and this talented cast have delivered a first season that is uplifting, funny, touching and relatable across generations. We are confident that the world, like us, will want much more of these characters, incredible songs and moments of joy.”

What will happen to Nini and Ricky during season 2 of ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’?

The finale of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiered on Jan. 10, 2020, complete with performances from “Act Two” and plenty of drama. Despite a few casting changes and problems with the lighting, the show went well and, as Miss Jenn stated, some fans can’t wait to see what the spring musical will be.

However, Nini (and Gina) might not be joining the cast of East High for their next production. After High School Musical ended, and the long-awaited kiss between Nini and Ricky happened, Nini was offered a spot at the acting school she applied to.

Presumably, this character will have to make a decision between staying at East High with her friends or follow her passion to a bigger stage. Also, Gina did have to move but, as Ashlyn hinted, there might be some way for her to stay a little longer. Oh, and Big Red and Ashlyn kissed. So there’s a lot to look forward to in season 2.
