There has been a lot of discussion around Lizzie McGuire and how “adult” the Disney show will be for its older audience. Hilary Duff has shared her opinion on how the show should go and now she’s sharing her reaction to a possible Paolo (Yani Gellman) appearance.

The ‘Lizzie McGuire’ revival was halted

The production of the show was halted and the rumored reason was creative differences over the plot. Showrunner Terri Minsky stepped down from the show and Duff shared a picture of an article on Instagram claiming another show was being moved from Disney+ to Hulu because it wasn’t considered “family friendly.” She wrote “sounds familiar…” in the post, according to iHeartRadio.

Minsky did give a statement to Variety after the exit. “I am so proud of the two episodes we did,” said the former showrunner. “Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It’s a wonderful thing to watch. I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That’s the part where I am completely in the dark.”

“It’s important to me that this show was important to people,” she continued. “I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.” There was reportedly a plot involved with sex and cheating, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Many main cast members are returning

The McGuire family will be reunited since Jake Thomas, Hallie Todd, and Robert Carradine will be back to play her parents and little brother. Her best friends are also returning with Adam Lamberg back as Gordo and Lalaine is back as Miranda Sanchez. The official description of the show reads according to Elle:

The new story picks up as Lizzie McGuire is just about to turn 30. She seemingly has it all—her dream job as an assistant to a fancy New York City decorator, her dream guy, and a picturesque Brooklyn apartment—but things aren’t always as they seem. With a little help from her friends, her loving family and her 13-year-old alter-ego in animated form, Lizzie navigates the ups and downs of adulthood.

The actress gave an update on the revival with Cosmopolitan. The good news is that she is still having meetings about the show.

“I’m still talking to [the team] weekly, I don’t know,” she said. “They were shooting and then everything was put on hold. And we’re just kind of figuring out if we can make this happen. But there were plans for a lot of people to be in the show.”

Some might be wondering if Paolo would make an appearance. He was in The Lizzie McGuire Movie and was a pop star who wanted her to impersonate his singing partner, Isabella. He was then going to trick her into singing live to make Isabella look bad.

Duff gave her thoughts on Paolo possibly coming back. “So, um, I already know some of those things but I don’t know about Paolo,” she said. “I think she’d probably be pretty mad to see him.”

Chances are there wouldn’t be a love connection there. Fans will still have to wait to get more news around the revival.
