Game of Thrones fans can’t wait for the HBO prequel, House of the Dragon. The recent teaser trailer gave fans their first peek at what’s to come for House Targaryen. Now, fans want to know all about the cast. So, who’s playing Alicent Hightower in the House of the Dragon cast? Here’s what we know.

Who is Alicent Hightower in the ‘Game of Thrones’ world?

So, who is Alicent Hightower? In the Game of Thrones world, she’s the daughter of the Hand of the King to King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, Sir Otto Hightower. Jaehaerys I Targaryen was the fourth Targaryen king. The Game of Thrones Wiki page pulled a quote from HBO explaining who she’ll be in the new series, House of the Dragon. And it seems she may play a pivotal role in some of the series politics.

“She’s the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms,” HBO explained. “She was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.”

Fans will likely see the relationship between Rhaenyra Targaryen, another House of the Dragon cast member, and Alicent Hightower in the new series. Viserys I Targaryen, the fifth Targaryen king, had a daughter, Rhaenyra. Viserys then married an 18-year-old Alicent. Alicent and Rhaenyra had a good relationship at first, but a rift grew as Alicent had four children with Viserys and hoped they’d succeed to the throne.

‘House of the Dragon’ cast: Who plays Alicent Hightower?

Who plays Alicent Hightower in the House of the Dragon cast? The character is played by Olivia Cooke as an adult, and by Emily Carey as a child.

Cooke spoke to Collider about taking on the role — and while she refused to give away any pivotal details on what fans can expect, she noted viewers can expect to see the character at her worst. “She’s very complex and I think people are gonna want to see the worst in her,” Cooke mentioned.

Additionally, Cooke mentioned Alicent Hightower portrays “the human condition,” and we may change our minds on her character as the story goes on. “What’s amazing about Game of Thrones, like we saw in the past series, is that one season, you hate a character, and the next, you absolutely love them and will go to the ends of the earth for them,” she added. ” … Such is the human condition, you can do some horrendous things, but then you can also do some wonderful things as well. It’s very complex, and it’s not black and white at all.”
