Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher shared a rocky relationship that lasted from 2003-2011. Although their romance was practically perfect at first, everything changed when they made the decision to tie the knot. Their relationship faced new hurdles and challenges that neither of them was prepared for, and in the end, Kutcher tried hard to get Moore to fall out of love with him.

Why did Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher’s relationship fail?

According to Moore’s memoir, Inside Out, she became “addicted” to Kutcher.
She admits that she became much too codependent with her former husband, to the point where he began to feel suffocated. Her clingy behavior with Kutcher caused him to pull away, which ultimately led to him neglecting their relationship.

It was the beginning of the end, as Kutcher kept pulling away more and more from the celebrity.

“Ashton was less and less present,” she writes. “He was focusing on other things: his work, his growing involvement in the tech world, his fantasy football league. He couldn’t have been clearer that whatever he was doing was really important- and I don’t fault him for that. But I do wish I’d been able to value myself in the same way.”

“Instead, I went into contortions to try to fit the mold of the woman he wanted his wife to be,” she continues. “I put him first. He didn’t ask me to do that. It’s just what he did. I wanted this marriage to work, and I was willing to do whatever it took, to jump through any hoop.”

But tragically, as much as she tried to make the relationship work, Kutcher was already looking for a way out of their marriage. Not being mature enough to end things on his own, Kutcher went to great lengths to try and get Moore to fall out of love with him.

The best way he knew how to do this was to begin cheating on Moore with other women.

Infidelity destroyed their relationship

While they were married, Kutcher was unfaithful to his wife. He had an affair with two women, who were both in their early 20s. One woman was a 21-year-old that Kutcher met in a bowling alley. The other was a fan of his that he met at a bar. According to Moore’s memoir, Kutcher used the same pick-up lines on these girls that he had used previously with her. It made her feel sick to her stomach when she found out.

But sadly, Kutcher didn’t even seem guilty about his behavior. Instead, he tried to justify his actions in the worst possible way.

“Ashton did not compensate for his behavior by being extra solicitous and kind,” Moore writes. “In retrospect, I think all of this was his way of trying to get out of our marriage. He didn’t know how to do that in a loving way, or maybe he was too conflicted. I think part of him cherished what we had; part of him couldn’t wait to move on.”

Moore continues, adding, “Every one of his actions was saying ‘please don’t love me.’ But, unfortunately for both of us, I did.”
