How Are the ‘Bosch’ Spinoff and ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Connected?
Hieronymous “Harry” Bosch (Titus Welliver) will return to the Bosch universe in the IMDb spinoff. It’s not the only of author Michael Connelly’s books. The Lincoln Lawyer is also getting the TV series treatment via Netflix. Both are set to premiere in 2022, and both have prominent Los Angeles-based leading men. Are the two shows connected?
Author Michael Connelly created ‘Bosch’ and ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’
The seventh and final season of Bosch — based on Collenney’s novel The Burning Room — aired in June. Already, fans of the character are clamoring for more. It’ll be a while for the untitled spinoff airs, but Connelly remains executive producer along with Eric Ellis Overmyer so it’ll contain the same feel. Welliver returns, along with Madison Lintz (Maddie Bosch) and Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers).
The spinoff will follow Harry Bosch as he investigates an old flame of a reclusive billionaire, whom he thinks had his son. It’s going to pull material from Connelly’s novel The Wrong Side of Goodbye. Meanwhile, David E. Kelly and A+E Studios adapted The Lincoln Lawyer for TV and it was picked up by Netflix in early 2021.
The author’s books have been on bestseller lists for years. Also, The Lincoln Lawyer was made into a feature-length film starring Matthew McConaughey in 2011. Both new TV projects are based on leading characters from different series. With The Wrong Side of Goodbye tapped to help craft the Bosch spinoff, The Lincoln Lawyer might crossover.
How ‘Bosch’ and ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ are connected
In the Harry Bosch series of books, The Crossing, The Wrong Side of Goodbye, and Two Kinds of Truth, Mickey Haller — aka “The Lincoln Lawyer” — is also a lead character. If Connelly keeps the Bosch universe close to the novels, we see major crossover potential.
Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller are half-brothers who have shown up in each other’s lives through the course of Connelly’s books. They also both live in Los Angeles with Bosch a former LAPD detective and Haller an LA defense attorney.
The Lincoln Lawyer will star Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Haller and Neve Campbell as his ex-wife Maggie McPherson. The 10-episode season is based on Connelly’s book, The Brass Verdict. It’s also slated for an early 2022 release. This only furthers the prediction that the two shows will have their leading men meet at some point, on either show.
Will Connelly’s new book be a part of ‘Bosch’ or ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’?

In Nov. 2021, fans of Connelly (and Bosch) will get to read his latest, The Dark Hours. The summary reads: “A brazen and methodical killer strikes on New Year’s Eve and LAPD Detective Renée Ballard and Harry Bosch must join forces to find justice for the victim in a city scarred by fear and social unrest,” per Connelly’s website. With Harry Bosch a part of the story, could it make its way into the spinoff?
Much of Connelly’s work features Bosch, so it’s hard to say if this one will be a part of the spinoff. With LAPD Detective Renée Ballard’s return, (she was first introduced in the 2017 novel The Late Show), we’d like to think so.
