Halsey’s latest album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, has received acclaim from critics and fans around the world. The artist explored a darker, industrial sound on the album, focusing on themes of female empowerment, motherhood, and romantic relationships.

Although Halsey has been transparent about appreciating critical feedback on her work, it is clear that she greatly values words of praise from her musical peers. In a recent Twitter exchange, Halsey revealed her excitement when another high-profile artist, Lil Nas X, showed his outspoken support for not just her album, but for Halsey herself.

Halsey is an award-winning musical artist

Halsey has been a star since 2015, after releasing her debut studio album, Badlands. Halsey’s powerful singing voice and unique stage persona was unlike anyone else in popular music, and in the years that followed, she released multiple hit songs, including “Closer,” “Gasoline,” “Bad at Love,” and “Without Me.”

Halsey has collaborated with many other big-name artists, such as Justin Bieber and the Chainsmokers, but it is as a solo artist that Halsey really shines. In 2021, Halsey’s album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, won the artist critical praise, marking a bold new direction both for Halsey and her music.

On the other end of the musical spectrum is Lil Nas X, a rapper, singer, and songwriter who first burst onto the scene in 2019, when his song “Old Town Road” became a viral sleeper hit. Known for his flamboyance and over-the-top stage personality, Lil Nas X has since released popular songs like “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” and “Industry Baby.”

In his personal life, Lil Nas X is an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, and came out publicly as gay in early 2019, not long after he rose to prominence. Lil Nas X has received his share of criticism online, but stands strong in his convictions and never shies away from opening up about what he loves.

What did Halsey say about Lil Nas X’s flattering tweet?

Lil Nas X loves to show support for other artists, and in late August 2021, after the release of Halsey’s album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, he took to Twitter to call out Halsey’s talent. In a tweet, Lil Nas X tagged Halsey and wrote “i’m only 3 songs in. u are a god and an inspiration.”

Halsey, in apparent disbelief, replied to his tweet by writing “Nah he tweakin.” She followed up her joking tweet with “But actually thank you you’re a legend ! and we WILL be streaming montero.”

The recent Twitter exchange isn’t the only time that Halsey and Lil Nas X have shown their support for each other’s artistry over the years. In 2019, following the release of Lil Nas X’s song “Old Town Road,” Halsey proudly proclaimed her love for the tune by sharing a video of herself twerking in cowboy chaps as the song played in the background. As reported by the Daily Mail, Halsey tweeted “when someone says “cowboy themed birthday party” and you already own the chaps,” along with the video.

Clearly, the two superstar artists have nothing but love for each other and have no problem showing it off for everyone online to see. With feuds and rifts common in the music industry, it is refreshing to see artists supporting artists.
