Though the duo hasn’t showcased their budding friendship on social media in months, Megan recently revealed that she and Bey are tight. So now that we know that the chart-toppers are close pals, we wonder, how exactly did their budding friendship start?
Beyoncé and Megan first crossed paths earlier this year
2020 might not have gotten off to a great start for many people, but it definitely did for Megan Thee Stallion.
On January 1, the rapper rung in the new year with the one and only Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter at a star-studded New Year’s Eve party. Megan even commemorated the night by sharing two black-and-white photos of herself posing alongside the iconic mother-daughter duo.
“Happy 2020,” she captioned the post, which raked in millions of likes within a few hours.
In May 2020, Megan recalled that memorable night with Bey while sitting down with Apple Music host Ebro Darden (via Variety).
“That was legit my first time meeting Beyoncé,” she shared. “And, oh my God, we danced all night — I was really in there, cutting it up. I was like, ‘Wow, Beyoncé accepts my turn up! She likes ‘Ratchet Megs’ and I love it!”
Megan says she and Beyoncé clicked within the ‘first five minutes’ of meeting
In a new interview with Variety, the “Hot Girl Summer” rapper opened up about her very first conversation with Beyoncé during the New Year’s Eve party.
While many celebrities have been rendered speechless in the Queen Bey’s presence, Megan admits that she and the singer struck up a conversation instantly. She even shared that talking to the Grammy winner was like second nature to her.
“In the first five minutes of the conversation, I felt like I’ve been knowing her all my life,” Megan told the outlet.
Since their encounter at the New Year’s Eve party, Beyoncé and Megan have maintained a close relationship. The “Halo” even reached out to the rapper when their “Savage” remix dropped in April 2020, giving Megan some valuable advice while praising her work ethic.
“I talked to her after the song came out,” Megan told Variety in May 2020. “She was just super supportive. Every time I see her she’s always telling me, ‘Keep going, keep going hard, you really got it. Do you.’ She’s somebody that really inspired me too, so just to know that Beyoncé even has heard any of my music, or has watched me as an artist come up, doing what I’m doing, and that she’s rocking with me enough to even do a song with me, that’s really something that touched my heart. I’ve looked up to Beyoncé since I was young.”
Today, Megan and Beyoncé have a tight-knit friendship. The rapper even gushed about her relationship with Bey to Variety, telling that outlet that she and the singer are like two peas in a pod. “She treated me like family, and now I feel like I am family. We talk all the time,” she shared.
