How Did NFL Quarterback Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld Meet?
When it comes to celebrity relationships, some celebs are wide open about sharing their love lives, while others prefer to keep them quiet. For example, the not-so-secret romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is a pretty big contrast from the hardly-known love story between Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and actor Hailee Steinfeld (who also makes some pretty catchy music).
After hard-launching Steinfeld in July 2024, Allen made a big move over Thanksgiving week when he proposed to his girlfriend. But after keeping their relationship a secret for so long, people can’t help but wonder: How did they meet?
Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld’s relationship has remained quiet
Allen and Steinfeld aren’t big on publicizing their romance, and we certainly don’t fault them for wanting to keep things private. But these two haven’t actually been together for all that long. They only went on their first date in May 2023, about a year and a half before getting engaged. At the time, Allen had recently split from a longtime girlfriend whom he’d known since high school, and things with Steinfeld were still new.
Allen and Steinfeld were first spotted in public having dinner at a sushi spot in New York City. “At one point in the night, Josh got behind the bar and served Hailee,” a witness told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “They looked sweet together and seemed like they had a great time.”
In all honesty, it’s still unclear exactly how the two met, but a source told People in May 2023 that they “They’ve been hanging out for a few weeks.” Allen “hard-launched” Steinfeld on Instagram in July 2024, more than a year after dating rumors began; the two had been together for all that time without ever confirming their relationship.
Josh Allen proposed to Hailee Steinfeld in November 2024
When you know, you know. You know? Such was the case for Allen and Steinfeld, whose relationship went from ultra-quiet to a full-blown marriage proposal within just about a year and a half. Allen popped the question in November 2024 and took to Instagram to share the good news in a collaboration post with Steinfeld. The caption only read the date of the proposal and two “infinity” symbols.
Fans were thrilled for the quarterback yet surprised given how quiet he has kept his relationship. Of course, there were a few jokes about Super Bowl rings, but ultimately, keeping the relationship under wraps seems to have worked for both of them. We wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get another social media post until the wedding, though.
