How Did Prince Harry Propose to Meghan Markle?
Since we’re all just living in Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal romance with them, it’s pretty incredible that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are able to make private time for themselves. From the moment they went public in 2016, the media and admirers alike have nearly tripped over each other to try and get photos of the royal couple, and any inside details we can scrounge up about their relationship.
Luckily the duchess and the prince have taken pity on us. They televised their gorgeous May 2018 wedding for the world to see, and, before their first official royal tour together, they announced that they were expecting their first child. In the sweetest statement, Kensington Palace announced, “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019. Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
Despite our obsession with the parents-to-be, there are parts of their romance that they’ve been able to keep pretty private. For example, we bet you didn’t know how Prince Harry proposed to the former actress.
A romantic night in
Trying to escape the hoopla surrounding heir relationship, Markle and Prince Harry like to spend their evenings at home. Before they wed, they lived together at a 2- bedroom apartment in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. In late November 2017, the pair announced their engagement. However, they had become engaged weeks before, during a cozy and romantic night in.
During an interview with BBC’s Mishal Husain, the pair revealed the adorable details about their romantic evening. Markle, who loves cooking, was busy roasting a chicken on that fateful evening. Though she and Prince Harry had discussed marriage before, the prince managed to catch his love by surprise.
Markle remembered, “It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got down on one knee. As a matter of fact, I could barely let you finish proposing. I said, “Can I say yes now?” The prince continued, “There were hugs, and I had the ring in my finger. I was like, “Can I give you the ring?” She goes, “Oh, yes! The ring!” It was a really nice moment. It was just the two of us, and I think I managed to catch her by surprise as well.” The pair wed May 19, 2018.
Struck by her beauty
Prince Harry knew that Duchess Meghan Markle was the one from the beginning. They met on a fateful blind date in July 2016, at the posh SoHo House in London. The Prince remembered, “I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her. There she was sitting there.” He recalled thinking, “I’m going to have to up my game.”
We honestly cannot wait to see the couple’s royal bundle of joy when he or she arrives in Spring 2019.
