How Did RuPaul and His Husband, George LeBar, Meet?
RuPaul has seen his fair share of drag queens come and go on his Emmy Award winning competition series, RuPaul’s Drag Race, but his love life has been exceptionally solid.
The drag icon has been a relationship with Georges LeBar for more than past two decades and their love continues to get stronger with each passing day.
With RuPaul not being one to talk about his personal relationships very often, many of us know very little about his marriage.
So who exactly is George LeBar and how did he and RuPaul come to cross paths 25 years ago?
They met while dancing
RuPaul is a household name and Hollywood celebrity who many of us thought we knew everything about.
While the icon is known for being open about his career and the success he has found over the years, relationships are something that he likes to keep to himself.
Before 2017, we didn’t know who the special person in RuPaul’s life was but after doing an exclusive interview with Hollywood Today Live, fans finally got the inside scoop into his love life.
During the interview, RuPaul revealed for the very first time that he’s married to his partner of 23 years, Georges LeBar.
After announcing his marriage, RuPaul shared that LeBar is a rancher from Wyoming and met him back in 1994 at a dance club in New York City.
“I met him on the dance floor at Limelight in 1994 on his birthday. We got married this year on the anniversary of when we met.”
Even though RuPaul was 34 while his future husband was 21 at the time, their 13 year age difference didn’t stop them from falling in love.
After that fateful night at the dance club, RuPaul and LeBar have been together ever since.
The couple has been married for 2 years
For the past 25 years, RuPaul and LeBar have been living happily as partners despite only recently getting married.
Back in 2015, RuPaul revealed that he and LeBar were not planning on getting tying the knot and were content with the life they’ve built together.
“No, I don’t stand on ceremony, I never want to conform to anything,” he told Buzzfeed at the time. “We looked into it if we could get a tax break and stuff but not because… Is he devoted to me? Am I devoted to him? Oh, hell yes. [But] I never want to be like everybody else.”
However, after sitting on the idea of marriage, RuPaul and his partner of 23 years finally decided to tie the knot in 2017.
“In light of what’s currently happening in the world today, what’s happening in Washington, we thought ‘You know what? Let’s do it,'” the Emmy Award winning host said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Let’s just do it because there’s too much at stake with our businesses.”
Though they are living blissfully as a married couple, RuPaul still prefers to maintain privacy when it comes to their relationship.
While LeBar has attended a few A-list events with his husband, he is still rarely seen in the public eye.
“He doesn’t care about show business at all. He could care less,” he said on Hollywood Today Live. “Most of the time, he’s on the ranch in Wyoming. He has a 60,000-acre ranch—it’s in two states, it’s in South Dakota, too. When I go there, I dress up in Western wear and nobody cares.”
