Stephen Nedoroscik, who became a national hero at the 2024 Olympics, hopes to find success on the dance floor. The gymnast has joined the cast of Dancing with the Stars. The pommel horse specialist will compete against other celebrities during season 33 of the series. While Nedoroscik’s casting may have shocked some, he is far from the first gymnast to try their hand at the competition. Several female gymnasts have competed for the Mirrorball Trophy, and a couple have even won it.

How many gymnasts have competed in ‘Dancing with the Stars’?

Seven Olympic gymnasts competed for the Mirrorball Trophy before Stephen Nedoroscik was tapped to compete. When season 33 premieres, Nedoroscik will become the eighth overall and first male gymnast to join the competition.

Shawn Johnson was the first Olympic gymnast to take home the Mirrorball Trophy. She competed for the prize during season 8, shortly after she took home gold at the 2008 Olympics. Aly Raisman competed in season 16 of the series. While Raisman also dominated on the gym floor, she had slightly less luck on the dance floor. Raisman finished fourth in the competition.

During season 20, Nastia Liukin took her turn burning up the dance floor. Lukin, who shared the stage with Johnson at the 2008 Olympics, took fourth place during her season. Laurie Hernandez and Simone Biles, both olympic gymnasts, also competed on Dancing with the Stars. Hernandez won season 23. Biles appeared in season 24 and finished in fourth place. Mary Lou Retton appeared in season 27 but was voted off in ninth place. Suni Lee was the most recent gymnast to compete on Dancing with the Stars. She competed on season 30 of the series, finishing fifth.

Who will be competing against Stephen Nedoroscik?

While the series has featured a few gymnasts and many Olympians, Nedoroscik is still a unique pick. He is the first male gymnast to ever appear on the show. ABC has yet to announce the other contestants for the upcoming season.

While ABC has yet to announce the other contestants, fans have spent weeks theorizing about the stars they expect to see competing for the Mirrorball Trophy. Several Reddit users are hoping to see Sydney Sweeney join the cast. Rumors have connected Sweeney to the cast in the past, but they have all turned out to be false. It is unlikely that Sweeny will appear this season, either.

Chris Olsen, the TikTok sensation best known for bringing celebrities coffee, Gerry Turner, and Leslie Fhima have also been names tossed around by fans. Fhima and Turner appeared in the first season of The Golden Bachelor. Fhima was Turner’s runner-up.

Season 33 of Dancing with the Stars is set to premiere in September. ABC will likely release additional cast information as we get closer to the premiere date.
