How Harry Styles Is Making Stevie Nicks’ Coronavirus Self-Isolation Easier
Singer Stevie Nicks shared a self-isolation update on social media on March 23. She wrote a handwritten letter which included a note about Harry Styles. Styles and Nicks have a history together before the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) required everyone to stay home. Find out how the singers know each other and what Styles has done for Nicks.
Harry Styles and Stevie Nicks have performed together
Styles told Cameron Crowe for Rolling Stone he first met Nicks after a concert of hers where he brought her a birthday cake. An Instagram post from his sister Gemma Styles puts that meeting in May of 2015. Their friendship evolved leading to some performances together, including at Nicks’ 2019 induction to the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
On Dec. 13, 2019, Nicks introduced Styles to perform Nicks’ Fleetwood Mac song “Landslide” together. Styles had just launched his Fine Line album. Styles told the crowd, “It wouldn’t be an album launch for me without this young lady. She’s been a light for me, and I’m sure she’s been a light for each and every one of you.”
Styles and Nicks have performed together before. They did “Landslide” and “Leather and Lace” at the Troubadour in 2017. Styles revealed to Howard Stern that Nicks was one of the first people to hear Fine Line. They had dinner after a Nicks concert in London, and Nicks kept Styles up all night.
“They’re so used to living nocturnally,” Styles said. “They wake up really late and then they kind of live through the night because they’re witches. So it’s getting to like 3 a.m., playing the album and I’m like, ‘I’m kinda tired’ and they’re like right in their prime. They’re really like, ‘Oh this is like daytime for us.’”
Stevie Nicks has company in self-isolation
Styles and Nicks are not spending the coronavirus self-isolation together, but Nicks is not alone. She’s also not wasting time. Her letter begins by updating her fans on who she’s spending this downtime with, and how they’re trying to make it useful.
“Dear Everyone,” Nicks wrote. “I know you are doing everything to help the situation we are all in. I am staying in with my Goddaughters and my assistant Karen – and all of our dogs – Lily, Luna and Mana – trying to think of creative things to do.”
How Harry Styles is inspiring Stevie Nicks
Nicks was one of the first people Styles played Fine Lines for, but she hasn’t stopped listening to it. The album may inspire some new Stevie Nicks music by the time this is all over.
“I am getting all of my paintings and drawings out – listening to music (mostly Harry Styles’ “Fine Line”) and being inspired by him to write some new songs and poetry,” Nicks wrote. “Way to go H. – it is your Rumours…”
Rumours is Fleetwood Mac’s 11th album.
Stevie Nicks’ final thoughts
The self-isolation may be only just beginning for many people, and a cure or vaccine could be a long time away. Nicks closes with a message of hope for the time being.
“My advice for all this free time and terrible news is
Just Dance –
This will pass –
Love will find a way –
It always does.”
