How Kathryn Hahn’s Role in ‘WandaVision’ Will Sculpt the MCU’s Future: Who Is She Playing?
Kathryn Hahn — known for starring in Bad Moms alongside Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis, as well as shows Transparent and Mrs. Fletcher — is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the highly-anticipated Disney+ Marvel show WandaVision.
The show, slated to sculpt the future of the MCU via a dialogue with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be responsible for setting up the narrative that segues into the multiverse. And, as Kevin Feige has stated, “the multiverse is the next step in the evolution of the MCU and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is going to crack it open in ways that will have repercussions,” as quoted by Screen Rant.
Doctor Strange 2 needs WandaVision to work. And, it looks like Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda may need Kathryn Hahn’s character to become the very famous hero — with a very famous name Wanda has yet to own.
Is Kathryn Hahn playing Agatha Harkness in ‘WandaVision?’
A report by Full Circle Cinema, and other media outlets, noted Kathryn Hahn’s attire on the set of WandaVision a while back. Hahn was wearing a purple ensemble with a striking resemblance to Agatha Harkness’ attire in the Comics, which led many to presume that Hahn will portray Wanda’s mentor which, given narrative plausibilities surrounding WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2, is a logical presumption.
Full Circle Cinema goes on to note the recent theories surrounding Harkness, stating that as Wanda’s mentor, she will be responsible for catalyzing her transformation into Scarlet Witch. While this is all speculation at this point, Wanda has yet to use the Scarlet Witch title in the MCU.
While fans use Scarlet Witch and Wanda interchangeably, the character, in the franchise, has remained Wanda, who has yet to don the classic Scarlet Witch look comic enthusiasts know and love. If Kathryn Hahn plays Agatha and helps Wanda come into the full extent of her powers, she will wind up carrying a very large responsibility for the future of the franchise.
‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ will likely rely on Wanda becoming Scarlet Witch
Rumor has it that come Doctor Strange 2, the sorcerer supreme will be tasked with cleaning up whatever mess Wanda leaves behind. WandaVision will likely follow the House of M comics, in which her descent into madness and grief leads her to fracture reality (bringing Paul Bettany’s Vision back to life).
Wanda may separate from her more grounded mindset, separate from her identity as Wanda, and become the Scarlet Witch, with assistance from Harkness.
According to recent theories, Harkness will be integral in this transformation, meaning she will be pivotal in cementing the groundwork for Doctor Strange 2. Meaning, without Kathryn Hahn, the WandaVision narrative would miss its main ingredient, and Doctor Strange 2 would lack an origin point from which to expand and “crack open” the MCU.
