How Long Have Beyoncé and Jay-Z Been Together?
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have the kind of relationship that most people dream about. In the past, they have had their fair share of trials and tribulations. However, the way they are able to overcome their problems and move on with a renewed sense of love and devotion for one another is truly inspirational.
Although Beyoncé got her start in the music industry at a very young age, her husband’s childhood was a bit different. He has admitted that when he was barely even a teenager, he was leading a life of drug dealing and violence. Even though the two had vastly different upbringings, in the end, it was music that had brought the dynamic duo together. Today, they are happily married with three beautiful children.

They met when Beyoncé was still a teenager
When Beyonce was 18 years old, she and her popular girl group, Destiny’s Child, performed at the MTV Spring Break Festival in Cancun in 2000. After the event, they were seated next to each other on the airplane and that is when she had met the 30-year-old rapper. Although she says that there was nothing romantic between the two at first, she had obviously made a lasting impression on Jay-Z.
In the song 713, Jay’s lyrics retell their first meeting. “We played it cool at the pool of the Cancun, VMA. Confidence you exude make the fools stay way,” the song continues, “Fate had me sittin’ next to you on a plane. And I knew straight away.” So, it seems clear that as far as Jay-Z is concerned, it was love at first sight.
The song later goes on to tell how Queen B had a boyfriend at the time, so the pair would settle for long phone conversations for the next two years until Beyoncé became single and Jay-Z finally made his move.
The two were very secretive about their relationship at first
In the early 2000s, the duo started to drive their fans crazy, wondering if they were officially a couple or not. They collaborated on the songs ’03 Bonnie and Clyde and Crazy in Love that seemed to portray the two artists as a real-life couple. However, in 2003 he sat down for an interview with Playboy where they had asked him if Bey was his girlfriend. He had replied that while she was beautiful, and anyone would be lucky to have her as a girlfriend, the two were not, in fact, dating.
Fans were skeptical of his denial. For the next several months, the two iconic singers were spotted in public together on several different occasions. In 2004, the two finally decided to make their relationship public when they attended the 2004 VMA’s together.
Eventually, Jay-Z “put a ring on it”
The pair had dated for four years after they had come out publicly with their relationship. There was talk that during that time, the pair had broken up briefly. In Jay-Z’s 2006 song Lost Ones, Jay may have been mentioning the break up when he had rapped about how he thought that Bey loved her music more than him and how he was afraid that their relationship was not meant to be.
In 2008, however, they had apparently fixed whatever problems that they had in their relationship and decided to officially get married in a super secretive ceremony that was held in Jay-Z’s NYC apartment.
Their marriage hasn’t always been easy
In 2014, a lot of people speculated that Jay may have cheated on Bey after they saw Beyoncé’s sister, Solange, physically fighting with her brother-in-law. Rumors swirled once again when Beyoncé came out with the record Lemonade that had talked about a dishonest person and also mentioned the infamous “Becky with good hair.” Although it is still unclear what exactly Jay and Solange’s fight was about, Jay’s infidelity rumors were confirmed when he admitted to David Letterman that he had been unfaithful in his marriage.
Better times ahead
After Jay was caught cheating, the couple had attended couple’s therapy, where they were able to work out there problems and realize just how much they truly love each other. Today, the couple have three kids: Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir. The couple seems happier than ever.
