How Long Have Paul McCartney and His Wife Nancy Shevell Been Married?
The third time has truly been the charm for former Beatle Paul McCartney when it comes to marriage.
He and his third wife, Nancy Shevell, celebrated another anniversary this week. It’s clear the two are enjoying a wedded bliss the Live and Let Die singer hasn’t seen since his first marriage to Linda McCartney, with whom he was married for 29 years until her death.
Here’s what we know about the McCartneys’ happy union.
How Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell met
The “cute Beatle” got to know Nancy Shevell during time spent in the Hamptons on New York’s Long Island. Rumor has it as well that Shevell’s second cousin, journalist and The View creator Barbara Walters, may have hosted events ensuring both McCartney and Shevell were in attendance, so sure was she that the two were meant to be a couple.
Before marrying McCartney, Shevell was married to Bruce Blakeman, a lawyer and father of her son, Arlen. She and Blakeman divorced in 2008, the same year the entertainer split from his second wife, Heather Mills.
The Band on the Run singer’s grown children are fond of Shevell and were in attendance for the couple’s 2011 wedding.
McCartney and Shevell have been married 9 years
The couple married on Oct. 9, 2011, in London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall. They’ve been married nine years.
McCartney wrote to his beloved on their wedding anniversary with a musically-themed tweet, “Congratulations Nancy on our 9th Wedding Anniversary. Thanks for 9 beautiful years of marriage. You are my rock and roll, you are my A side and B side, you are my verse and chorus. I love you. Paul.”
Shevell, 60, was a member of the board of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority and is vice president of the family-owned New England Motor Freight, which of late has filed for bankruptcy.
Julian Lennon felt left out of McCartney’s nuptials
John Lennon’s older son, Julian, has always felt close to McCartney. As a Beatle, McCartney famously wrote “Hey Jude” in 1968 for Julian, who was just a young boy at that time.
When McCartney married Shevell in 2011, Julian publicly called out his father’s former musical collaborator for neglecting to invite him and his mother, John’s first wife, Cynthia, who died in 2015.
His half-brother, Sean and Lennon’s wife, Yoko Ono, did attend McCartney’s wedding reception in New York City, heightening Julian’s feeling of exclusion.
“Wow… Snubbed at Macca’s Wedding, Snubbed at the Anniversary of ‘LOVE’ in Vegas! Snubbed at Macca’s Wedding reception in NYC, last night. What Have I done to be ignored in such a way?,” Julian asked in a 2011 Facebook post that was subsequently removed.
He continued, referencing his father’s 1971 song, “Gimme Some Truth.”
“I was not invited to ANY of these events…,” he continued. “I thought we had a relationship… Obviously not… Gimme some truth… Maybe now it’s time to tell the Truth… I & My Mother will not be eradicated from History… How Dare They.”
McCartney’s team issued a statement saying it was a simple and unfortunate mix-up, as they had thought Julian was in his Italy home and unable to attend.
In the years since, hopefully the Beatle and Julian have hopefully declared as The Beatles once sang, “we can work it out.”
