How Many Children Do the Duggars Have? A Guide to All the Duggar Kids
Ask anyone how many kids the Duggar family has and no doubt their answer will be: “A whole lot!” But just how many children did Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have, anyway?
The answer to this question can be confusing. After all, when their TLC show aired it was called 17 Kids and Counting but eventually got renamed 19 Kids and Counting for accuracy. Then there was the time Michelle admitted to desiring even more children.
The Duggar brood is gigantic
Michelle announced that she was pregnant with her twentieth baby in 2011. Sadly, the baby was stillborn on December 11, 2011. They named their little girl Jubilee Shalom Duggar and still remember her on her birthday.
Currently, the Duggars have 19 living children. They already have 12 grandchildren and will likely have a lot more soon. And the weirdest part? Jim Bob and Michelle’s oldest grandchild, Mackynzie, is two months older than their youngest daughter, Josie (who is technically her aunt). Mind boggling!
Why do the Duggars have so many children?
When Jim Bob and Michelle first got married, they used birth control because they wanted to wait a few years to have children. After they gave birth to their first child, Joshua, Michelle went back on birth control. But a short time later she experienced a miscarriage, which she blames on the hormonal pills she was taking to avoid pregnancy.
Technically, birth control is against the Duggars’ religion anyway. The family follows the Independent Baptist church with their strict rules of conduct. One rule states that married couples must be open to pregnancy no matter what.
Who are the Duggar children?
With 19 kids who all have names that start with the letter “J”, it can be difficult to keep everyone straight. Here are the Duggar children in order:
1. Josh Duggar
Perhaps best known for the Ashley Madison and sexual molestation scandal, Josh Duggar is married to Anna Keller and has five children of his own. Josh was born in March 1988.
2. & 3. John David and Jana Duggar (twins)
The first set of Duggar twins was born in January 1990. Jana is unmarried and living at home, and John David married Abbie Burnett in November 2018.
4. Jill Duggar (Dillard)
Jill was born in May of 1991. She is married to Derick Dillard and has two sons, who all used to appear on the TLC show Counting On until a huge controversy with Jill’s husband got him fired.
5. Jessa Duggar (Seewald)
Known as the “rebel Duggar” Jessa recently shocked fans by wearing pants in public (that’s not allowed usually). Jessa is married to Ben Seewald and the couple has two children. She was born in November 1992.
6. Jinger Duggar (Vuolo)
People speculated on why it took Jinger, who was born in December 1993, more than a year to add to the numerous grandchildren in the Duggar family and wondered if she was either on birth control or experiencing infertility. Jinger and her husband welcomed their first baby in July 2018.
7. Joseph Duggar
Baby boy Joseph entered the Duggar clan in January 1995. He’s married to Kendra Caldwell (though his little brother, Jedidiah, was supposedly courting her first). The couple has a son together named Garrett.
8. Josiah Duggar
Josiah Duggar (born in August 1996) married Lauren Swanson in June 2018 after a short courtship. Fans are eagerly awaiting their pregnancy announcement.
9. Joy-Anna Duggar (Forsyth)
This Duggar daughter was born in October 1997. She married Austin Forsyth in May 2017 and had a son, Gideon, in February 2018.
10. & 11. Jedidiah and Jeremiah Duggar (twins)
The second set of Duggar twins came into the world in December 1998. There are rumors that Jeremiah is currently courting someone, but nothing is confirmed.
12. Jason Duggar
The first boy of the new millennium of Duggars was born in April 2000.
13. James Duggar
Little James Duggar joined the clan in July 2001.
14. Justin Duggar
Now that the show is off the air, fans don’t have as much insight into the lives of the Duggars. But they do know that Justin was born in November 2002.
15. Jackson Duggar
The youngest Duggar son, Jackson, was born in May 2004.
16. Johannah Duggar
Referred to as the “younger set,” Johannah Duggar is much younger than her oldest siblings. She was born in October 2005.
17. Jennifer Duggar
The third youngest Duggar, Jennifer, was born in August 2007.
18. Jordyn-Grace Duggar
Another member of the littles still at home includes Jordyn-Grace, who was born in December 2008.
19. Josie Duggar
Who could forget the harrowing tale of Josie Duggars birth in December 2009? This “miracle baby” was born at 25 weeks gestation and weighed just 1 lb 6 ounces. Today, she’s a thriving, happy little girl.
