Hollywood is currently mourning the loss of one of its great talents, actor Kelly Preston. The Jerry Maguire star passed away on July 12, 2020, following a two-year battle with breast cancer. She was 57 years old.

Preston is survived by her husband of almost 30 years, John Travolta, and their children, whom the Grease actor says she “adored.”

John Travolta and Kelly Preston have three children together

For years, one of Hollywood’s most prominent couples was John Travolta and Kelly Preston.

The duo happily tied the knot in Septemeber 1991 in Paris, just nine months after Travolta proposed at the Palace Hotel restaurant in Gstaad, Switzerland, with a six-carat yellow-and-white diamond ring.

When they exchanged nuptials, Preston was two months pregnant with their first child. In April 1992, they welcomed their son, Jett.

Just eight years later, the actors welcomed their daughter, Ella. And in 2010, Travolta and Preston’s youngest son, Benjamin, arrived.

Their oldest son, Jett, sadly passed away in 2009

In January 2009, the Travolta family suffered an incredible loss when Jett passed away while vacationing in the Bahamas with his loved ones.

According to reports, Jett suffered a seizure inside the family’s vacation home and was declared dead at Rand Memorial Hospital, after a caretaker found him unconscious in the bathroom.

A few years later, the Saturday Night Fever actor opened up about his son’s death, calling it “the worst thing that’s ever happened in my life” in a 2014 interview with the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, via BBC.

“The truth is, I didn’t know if I was going to make it,” Travolta said. “Life was no longer interesting to me, so it took a lot to get me better.”

Preston had also opened up about the overwhelming pain that comes with losing a child but offered a message of hope to other parents who’ve experienced the same thing.

“Nobody should have to lose a child. It’s unfathomable,” the actress said in a 2012 interview with Lifetime, via HuffPost. “But I’m here to say that you can get through it. You can live again. You can want to live again.”

Though Jett’s passing was hard for the entire family to cope with, Travolta revealed in a 2016 interview with Good Morning America that his youngest son, Benjamin, helped everyone heal.

“We certainly have bonded together,” the actor said. “Certainly having little Ben has been a beautiful kind of glue for us to rebond after a tremendous loss.”

The Travolta family is mourning another tragic loss

Eleven years after the Travolta family lost Jett, they are again suffering tremendous heartbreak following Preston’s death.

On July 12, 2020, the Grease actor confirmed on Instagram that his wife of 28 years had passed away following an ongoing battle with breast cancer.

Travolta shared a sweet photo of Preston on his feed along with the caption, “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”

Shortly after the actor shared the news of Preston’s passing, their daughter, Ella, took to Instagram to post a heartbreaking tribute to her mother.

“I have never met anyone as courageous, strong, beautiful and loving as you,” the Old Dogs actress wrote. “Anyone who is lucky enough to have known you or to have ever been in your presence will agree that you have a glow and a light that never ceases to shine and that makes anyone around you feel instantly happy.”

She concluded, “Thank you for being there for me no matter what. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your help and thank you for making this world a better place. You have made life so beautiful and I know you will continue to do so always. I love you so much mama.”
