Eric Church is one of the biggest celebrities in country music currently. He is known for his mysterious on-stage personality and his dark aviator sunglasses. Aside from being a really good singer and songwriter, Church is also a family man.
Church and his wife have been together for 12 years now, and they seem happier than ever. His wife Katherine Blasingame is a music publisher. Eric Church almost didn’t become a singer
Church began writing songs at the age of 13 after buying a guitar. He used to help his father out at his job at a furniture upholstery company called Clayton Marcus. Church attended the South Caldwell High School. He later graduated from Appalachian State University with a marketing degree.
When he was in senior year, he landed a gig at a local bar and other areas where he would sing covers for various songs and some of his own. Most of the places he would sing at were rough places. He would often get into scuffles with the people from the stage.
He formed a band called The Mountain Boys which consisted of his brother, his college mate, himself and a fellow guitarist. The band would play in local restaurants and bars throughout North Carolina.
After finishing college, he got involved with a Spanish teacher in Lenoir. The lady’s father didn’t approve of Church’s singing and instead offered him a career in the corporate world. Church rejected the offer and insisted on pursuing music full-time. As a result, his fiancé called off the engagement.
Church relocated to Nashville and with his father’s financial backing, launched his music career. His father provided him with the contacts he needed to kick off his career. She also provided him with an opportunity to focus on writing his songs.
Eric Church has been married for 12 years now
Church and his wife, Katherine Blasingame, met through work. Katherine was trying to connect him with one of the writers she had previously worked with. She is a music publisher and had been in the music industry longer than Church had been.
The two instantly hit it off and began getting close. They dated for a while and tied the knot in an exclusive ceremony on January 8, 2008. The couple wed at the Westglow Spa & Resort in Blowing Rock. The two decided to exchange their vows in the mountains because they thought it was a romantic spot.
Although Church is not known for writing and singing love songs, he made an exception for his wife on their wedding day. He wrote and performed his hit song You Make It Look Easy for Katherine to honor and appreciate her.
Since she has a background in music, Church trusts her every opinion on his songs. He uses her experience and knowledge in music to bounce ideas off her. She sometimes contributes her ideas for his music.
The couple is blessed with two children
In 2011, Church and his wife were blessed with a son whom they named Boone McCoy Church. The couple arrived at the name by combining both their family names into one. Although Boone is a geographical location where interestingly Church grew in, the singer explained that it was also a family name.
In 2015, the couple also had another son called Tennessee Hawkins Church. Church explained that he came up with the name Hawkins after seeing a hawk fly by. As for the name Tennessee, it’s because his wife is from Tennessee and she holds the city close to her heart.
Church wrote a song called Three Year Old when his first son Boone was three. According to Country Living, the song details Church’s fatherhood journey. It also expresses his gratitude for being a father and the lessons he’s learned.
