Atlanta-bred rapper Jeezy has been a looming figure in hip-hop for nearly two decades. The Grammy-nominated emcee married The Real co-host Jeannie Mai in early 2021. But he’s been in other serious relationships before marrying Mai.
Jeezy has been a rapper for years
Jeezy first started rapping under the name Lil J in the early 2000s. He released his first album Thuggin’ Under the Influence (T.U.I.) in 2001, which featured guests including Lil Jon. He released his second album Come Shop Wit Me in 2003; the following year, he joined the hip-hop group Boyz n Da Hood.
In 2005, Jeezy released his major-label debut album, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation. The album contained the hit single “Soul Survivor” with singer Akon, which peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It remains his highest-charting single to date.
Jeezy’s third album, 2008’s The Recession, began to cement his spot as a rapper to be reckoned with. It sold over a quarter of a million copies in its first week and was later certified Gold with over 500,000 copies sold. The album’s lead single, the Kanye West collab “Put On,” reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned the both of them a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Performance By a Duo or Group. The album also contained the hit single “My President” with Nas. At the same time, Jeezy was featured on Usher’s “Love in This Club” and Akon’s “I’m So Paid,” with the former reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Jeezy continued to release albums and mixtapes throughout the 2010s. In November 2020, he famously competed in a Verzuz battle for the ages with his fellow Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane.

Throughout his time in the spotlight, Jeezy has been in relationships with a number of women. Most of these relationships have been kept personal and out of the spotlight.
According to The Sun, his oldest child, Jadarius Jenkins, is in college studying to launch his own fashion line. He’s also a rapper himself, going by the name Lil’ Jezzy. His mother is Tenesha Dykes, an entrepreneur whom Jeezy once dated.
Jeezy’s second child, a son named Shyheim, leads a largely private life, with the identity of his mother not publicly known — though some sources believe his mother is also Dykes.
His third child (and first daughter) Amra Nor was born in February 2014. According to News Nation, in 2016, Jeezy proposed to his then-girlfriend, musician Mahlet Gebregiorgis, on Christmas Day.
Jeezy’s wife Jeannie Mai is pregnant
In September 2019, Jeezy began dating TV personality and co-host of The Real, Jeannie Mai. Their relationship has been chronicled with Mai’s daily presence on the show, often opening up about how much their relationship means to her and has changed her life.
In April 2020, the two announced their engagement. In the spring of 2021, they announced that they had tied the knot. And in September 2021, in the premiere episode of The Real‘s eighth season (and the first back in the studio after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic), Mai confirmed that they were expecting their first child together.
Mai’s due date remains unknown, but she will likely become a first-time mom by the end of 2021.
