How Many Kids Does Seth Meyers Have?
Seth Meyers is one of comedy’s leading men, having taken over the Late Night hosting duties from Jimmy Fallon in 2014. During that time, he has had the opportunity to be the comic relief for a nation at some of its most politically unstable times.
While his professional career has been steadily on the rise, his personal life has seen a lot of growth as well. If you’re curious about what Meyers’ family life is like, look no further.
Seth Meyers had a lot of comedy experience going into ‘Late Night’
Prior to taking over Late Night, Meyers was a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live. In fact, he was on the show for thirteen years, and his appearance on the Weekend Update segment was a staple of the program. His deadpan delivery and dry sense of humor fit right in with the segment which requires comedians to deliver increasingly ridiculous news updates while keeping a straight face.
The practice on SNL was great preparation for the switch to Late Night with Seth Meyers. Meyers has even called upon previous Weekend Update sketches on the show, particularly when he was mocking President Donald Trump.
In one joke, Meyers covered Trump’s response to reporters who were pressing him on making unsubstantiated claims that President Barack Obama had wiretapped him. Trump responded with, “I’m president, and you’re not.” Meyers pointed out that this line was a nearly verbatim copy of one from former SNL cast member Chevy Chase.
“Okay, I didn’t mind when you talked dirty with Billy Bush or told Russia to hack Hillary’s emails. But when you start stealing bits from Weekend Update anchors, it is on,” Meyers quipped.
He’s had plenty of political material to bring forward on the show since he took over hosting duties, and the job has brought him a comfortable net worth of around $10 million.
Seth Meyers lives in New York with his family
At least some of those millions have been spent on a swank apartment in the heart of New York City. Meyers lives with his family in a $7.5 million apartment in Greenwich Village.
He’s married to human rights lawyer Alexi Ashe. The pair met in 2008 at the wedding of former SNL cast member Chris Kattan. Meyers was present to support his friend, and Ashe had been invited as the guest of her sister, who worked on SNL as a set designer.
The pair dated for five years before getting married in 2013.
Seth Meyers and Alexi Ashe have two sons and an exciting birth story
In 2016, Ashe and Meyers had their first son. Since Ashe kept her own last name, she found a way to pass her name down to her son by calling him Ashe Meyers.
In April of 2018, the couple had their second son. This one came into the world in a hurry. In fact, they didn’t make it to the hospital. They were on their way, but the baby was coming too quickly, so he ended up being born in the lobby of their apartment building. Neighbors rushed to keep warm towels on hand to wrap around the newborn, and Meyers called 9-1-1.
“We’re about to have a baby—we’re having a baby—we had a baby,” Meyers recounted his one-minute conversation with the emergency operator. Help arrived after the baby had already made his way into the world, but all was well.
Meyers recounted the way that being a family of four changed his life with his signature sense of humor: “I haven’t been great as far as being an assistant to my wife, in that the baby will wake up a couple times in the middle of the night and then I’ve been adding a third wake-up because I have night terrors about where the baby is. So I’ve been waking up, grabbing my wife’s face, saying, ‘I don’t know where the baby is.’ Then I just go back to sleep.”
Whether there will be more children in their future remains to be seen, but the comedian has mined his role as a father for some great material on the show.
