RM of BTS is fluent in English

It’s no surprise that the leader of BTS, RM, is fluent in English. During an interview on The Ellen Show, the BTS member explained that he learned the language when he was younger, watching the famous sitcom Friends. When the group spoke at the United Nations, RM was the spokesperson, showcasing his English skills.

Additionally, according to fans on Quora, RM speaks Japanese very well. However, it is unclear if the rapper is fluent in the language. Most speculate at this point, he is.

All the BTS members understand English and often speak English during interviews

After spending so much time abroad, it’s only natural that the boys picked up some English. Although RM is the only member who is fluent in the language, each of the BTS members can understand and can speak a little English. Specifically, Jungkook expressed interest in learning English. During one V-Live video, Jungkook stated that by 2017, he would study more English and Japanese. It definitely shows — during interviews, the singer throws out a few words and phrases when he can.

Some fans on Quora state that Suga is another member who understands English very well. Though he may not be comfortable speaking it, Suga often says in interviews that he wishes he learned English sooner. One of the members who speaks English the most often is J-Hope.

Jin and J-Hope of BTS can speak Mandarin

Aside from speaking and understanding English and Japanese, a few members of BTS can speak Mandarin, a formal language spoken in China. That includes Jin and J-Hope, who, according to popbuzz.com, are pretty fluent in the language. Some fans on Quora pointed out that J-Hope is confident in his Japanese, as well, speaking during multiple interviews from 2017 through 2018.

“J-Hope [attended] a lot of Japanese shows/interview as a representative of BTS, (they didn’t attend as a whole for certain shows), and some of it, he attended with Jimin or Taehyung, and J-Hope did the most talking, and he is very natural,” said one Quora user. “He also constantly showed that he had this paper where he brought the paper everywhere with him, which the paper had some Japanese ‘homework’ for him. And, I would say he is the closest to RM’s fluency in Japanese, though he still stutters a bit sometimes.”

V of BTS is fluent in Japanese

Another bi-lingual member of the boy band is V, who is fluent in Japanese. As a result of the group’s success in Japan, they often release music in Japanese, giving V a chance to showcase his skills. Additionally, V is pretty good at English. His latest single release, “Winter Bear,” is sung entirely in English and was widely well-received by fans. Although he is not fluent, Jimin can also speak Japanese well, often singing in the language for BTS songs.

The K-Pop group is currently on a break from their international tour. They return to the road later in 2019, making stops in Saudi Arabia and South Korea.
