Who is Huda Kattan?
Kattan was born on October 2, 1983, in Oklahoma. Her parents are both Iraqi immigrants who came to America before she was born so that her mother could teach biology and her father could pursue a career in mechanical engineering.
When Kattan was young, her parents moved to Tennessee. While she lived in Tennessee, she went by the name “Heidi” because all of the kids that she went to school with thought Huda was a very odd name.
The family had later moved to Massachusetts where Huda said she finally felt like she could be herself. In an interview with Vogue, Huda said: “I wanted to go by Huda but people thought it was so weird. But when we moved to Massachusetts, people were like, ‘That’s such a cool name!’ They would even tell me, ‘You’re from Iraq; wow, that’s so cool.”
After graduating high school, she went on to attend the University of Michigan to study finance. She landed a well-paying finance job shortly after graduating.
However, the recession in 2008 left her jobless and looking for other options. Instead of trying to find another job in finance, Kattan decided to attend the famous Joe Blasco makeup school and then started her own beauty blog in 2010 called Huda Beauty.

Kattan is the third child of four siblings. She has an older brother named Khalid, an older sister named Alya, and a younger sister named Mona. When Kattan first decided to pursue a career in the beauty industry, it was her older sister, Alya, who helped her get her foot in the door.
She said that her older sister was actually the first person who got her interested in makeup when she was just a teenager. And when she decided to start a career in the beauty industry, the two sisters would share countless beauty tips and tricks on their Facebook and other social media pages.
Soon, their posts started to go viral, and before they knew it, Huda Beauty became a household name.
Huda Beauty is a family business
In 2013, Huda Beauty launched its own cosmetics line. The first item to hit shelves from the new cosmetics line was false eyelashes.
Kattan said she got the idea to create her own brand of eyelashes when she was unable to find a pair that she liked in stores. Apparently, other people had the same problem, and shortly after the eyelashes hit the market, they were sold out.
Today, the cosmetics line sells over 100 different beauty items, including lipstick, highlighters, matte foundation, and even foundation. The business quickly went from being a modest blog to becoming a global icon in just a few years.
The company is now based out of Dubai and Kattan and her two sisters have an active role in running the business. Her older sister, Alya, is the Chief Instagram Officer for the company. And her younger sister, Mona, is the company’s global president.
