Most people know that Melania Trump isn’t Donald Trump’s first wife. With a reputation for dating around and even being unfaithful to his spouses, Trump isn’t well-known for staying committed to just one woman. Plus, he has a daughter who’s almost the same age as his wife (but at least she’s not younger).

In 1992, rumors of an affair with Marla Maples spurred the pair to divorce during a time that Trump described as the “darkest days of his life.” He was talking about the financial implications and the emotional strain of separating from a woman he’d built a life with for 15 years.
Eventually, Donald Trump paid Ivana Trump $25 million as part of the divorce settlement. They are supposedly on good terms today.
Donald Trump and Marla Maples
Trump’s shortest marriage is the one people most often forget. Trump met actress Marla Maples while he was still married to Ivana Trump and began a covert affair with her that quickly got out of hand. When Trump tried to secretly bring her along on a family vacation to Aspen, Maples couldn’t help but go up to Trump’s wife and say, “I love Donald. Do you?” Yikes.
Maples got pregnant with Trump’s daughter, Tiffany, in 1993 and the couple wed just a few months after she was born that same year. But by 1997, they were separated and officially divorced in 1999.
Donald Trump and Melania Knauss
Donald met Melania at a Manhattan night club when he was on a date with someone else. When he asked Melania for her number, she requested his instead, and apparently, Trump appreciated that she was a little harder to get than other women he pursued. Melania hails from Slovenia and had no concept of Trump’s reputation or celebrity status at that point.
After dating for a while, Trump proposed to Melania with a 12-carat engagement ring in 2004. They tied the knot in 2005 and had their son Barron in 2006.
At that point almost no one – including Trump himself – suspected he’d be president one day. But hey, sometimes the strangest things are true. Now Melania Trump is first lady of the United States and the third wife of Donald Trump. Rumors of trouble in their marriage or reported infidelity have been shot down by Melania repeatedly.
