Beyoncé has quickly become one of the most iconic and inspirational women of our time. Not only does she have enough  Grammy Awards to cover an entire wall but she has also impressively accumulated  10 number one singles in her 20-year career. During her career, we have watched the Queen Bee grow from a child to a young woman with a family of her own. Over the years, the music that she has created has s also grown and matured with her.

So, just how old is the groundbreaking singer and how long has she been in the music industry? Let’s take a quick look at the ageless beauty’s career throughout the years.

How old is Beyoncé?

Beyoncé was born on September 4, 1981, to Tina and Mathew Knowles and is the older sister of  Solange Knowles. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas and has said that she has very fond memories of her childhood.

“Growing up in Houston was fun,” the 37-year-old superstar said on a Houston website for tourist. “We always had a huge backyard to play in. My mom allowed my friends to come over all of the time; it was like a continuous slumber party at our house.”

She also went on to talk about how her mother still lives there and no matter where her career takes her, Houston will always be her home.

She started singing at a very young age

It’s hard to believe, but apparently, the pop diva used to be a very shy child. It has been reported that her mother, Tina, signed young Bey up for dance classes so that she could make new friends. Soon Mrs. Knowles was starting to see her young daughter blossoming into a talented performer. “When we saw her on stage for the first time, it was incredible. I’d never seen her so alive and confident,” her mother recalled.

It wasn’t long after that when her dad decided to put together an R&B music group called Destiny’s Child that included Beyoncé, her cousin, Kelly Rowland, and two of her friends, LeToya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson. The group wasn’t an overnight success. They had spent the first few years performing at different clubs around Texas and even appearing on Star Search before they were finally able to get their big break in 1997. The group had later replaced two of its members with singer, Michelle Williams, and went on to become one of the hottest girl groups of that decade.

Going Solo

Destiny’s Child had arguably revolutionized the R&B genre. However, in 2003, Beyoncé was ready to have her own spotlight on stage. She came out with her first solo record entitled, Dangerously in Love, which her fans seemed to immediately love.

In 2006, Destiny’s Child had stopped recording music together and Bey was now able to put all of her energy into creating a new brand for herself. With her new solo career, fans got to see her music evolve into something extraordinary as her lyrics became more mature and the rhythms became something that fans could not seem to get enough of.

Now that she is a solo artist, the Queen Bee gets to have more creative input on her music an even writes a lot of her own songs. She has even collaborated with her husband, Jay-Z and created instant hits like ‘Part II (On the Run)’ and ‘Crazy in Love.’

Beyoncé has gone from a shy kid from Texas to a megastar performer who has a record-breaking amount of Grammy nominations. We don’t know what the future holds for Bey, but we do know that with the kind of talent that she has, there can only be good things in store for her when it comes to her career.
