How Princess Diana Referred to Camilla Parker Bowles In Front of Prince William and Prince Harry
There’s no denying that then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana had a tumultuous marriage. After they separated in 1992, the public began to learn just how bad things were and that infidelity was one of the reasons for their split.
Once the media had confirmation of Charles’ mistress, Camilla Parker Bowles, Princess Diana was worried what her young sons would hear. She ended up breaking the news to Prince William herself before Prince Harry found out what was going on and then she started referring to Camilla one way every time she was in front of boys.
What Princess Diana called Camilla in front of William and Harry
Having to refer to another woman Charles was in love with in front of their sons couldn’t have been easy for Diana. She was obviously angry and hurt but not only that, there were likely plenty of questions William and Harry asked her that no one else knows about.
So how what did Diana call Camilla around her children?
Multiple publications have reported that she always referred to her as “Charles’ woman.”
When Princess Diana died in 1997, Camilla was labeled Public Enemy No. 1 and the young princes weren’t thrilled that their father continued to see her.
It was reported that William was especially resistant to meeting Camilla after his mother’s passing. Harry was angry and did not want anything to do with her either. But time usually heals all wounds and over the years both Harry and William recognized how happy she made their dad and accepted their relationship.
The nickname Diana had for Camilla when her sons weren’t around
While she didn’t resort to rude name-calling in front of her boys, Princess Diana did have another choice word for Camilla when she was around other adults.
According to Diana’s pal, Simone Simmons, the princess ended up giving Camilla an unflattering nickname which she told her about.
In her book, Diana: The Last Word, Simmons wrote that the princess referred to her husband’s mistress as “the Rottweiler.” The author added that Diana said she gave her that name “because she looks like a dog — and because once she has got her teeth into someone she won’t let go.”
Prince Charles’ friend made cruel comments about Camilla too
Given the fact that Camilla was a contributing factor in the breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage, it was expected that the princess might have some not-so-nice things to say about her. But a number of Charles’ buddies made very rude comments about Camilla as well before she and Charles got hitched.
Royal writer Christopher Wilson, who penned the book The Windsor Knot, Charles Camilla and the Legacy of Diana, said that Charles’ friends never thought Camilla and the future king would actually end up together and joked about her.
Wilson revealed that “One of Charles’ friends cruelly remarked: ‘Can you imagine her face on a postage stamp?’”
Charles and Camilla wed on April 9, 2005.
