‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Trailer Has Arrived and It’s Everything We Need for Spooky Season
Many of us scratched our heads when we first heard that Amazon Prime had signed on to debut the I Know What You Did Last Summer TV show in October 2021. Was it really necessary to reboot a movie that received mediocre reviews? Were the lackluster sequels not enough to put this old tale to bed? Apparently not, but now that we’ve seen the trailer, we aren’t mad.
The series is based on Lois Ducan’s book of the same name
Just like the 1997 film, the series is based on the novel by Lois Duncan. A group of teens accidentally crash into a person on a desolate road in their car after a party. Presumably dead, the group decides the best idea is to hide the body and make a promise to never tell anyone. Yeah, we know how this story goes.
Just like the series Pretty Little Liars theme song taught us, “only two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.” That’s just talking about two people and the situation in I Know What You Did Last Summer involves at least four people. There’s no way this news isn’t leaking out somewhere.
Over the years, Duncan has made it clear she wasn’t happy with the film at all. Her own daughter was murdered and didn’t feel the death of a child was something to “giggle and squeal about” according to this interview.
Who are the stars of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’?
IMDb has yet to release the names of the characters they’ll be playing, but we do know which actors will star in the series. Brienne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, and Sebastian Amoruso have top billing on the site. However, from what we see in the trailer, it looks like there might be more than four teens involved in the deadly incident.
The I Know What You Did Last Summer film, and the novel, had four teens trying to keep their crimes hidden, but that doesn’t mean the series couldn’t change things up. We saw Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe as the main stars in the original. However, Johnny Galecki was seen in several scenes as one of the outcasts of their friend group. We could see how this opens the door for more characters in the Amazon Prime series.
When will we get all episodes of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’?
For those of us jonesing for some new horror content during the year’s spookiest month, I Know What You Did Last Summer is set to deliver. The first four episodes of the show will drop on Oct. 15, 2021. After that, we have to wait every week. In a way, it makes the buildup to the climax of the story more exciting. Plus, it gives fans plenty of time to develop their own fan theories on who’s the killer terrorizing the town. The series will air exclusively on Amazon Prime.
