After Tiffany “New York” Pollard‘s failed romance with Flavor Flav, we thought she had finally found the love she had been searching for in I Love New York contestant Tango. But that too turned out to be a dumpster fire.

As many might recall, the two had a heated blowup at the season one reunion special that culminated in their breakup. Looking back on their relationship, Tango has offered up new details about their romance and the reason he was so angry at the finale.

Tango appeared on the first season of ‘I Love New York’ in 2007

Fans of I Love New York could see the actor with many of the contestants that appeared on the show — from Kamal “Chance” Givens to Joshua “Whiteboy” Gallander. But Patrick “Tango” Hunter had a certain vibe and energy that made him a top contender.

He was mature and brought a balance and calm to the fiery New York. He went above and beyond to show his affection and challenged New York to let down her emotional walls. His efforts earned him a rare stamp of approval from her mother, Sister Patterson, and ultimately led to New York picking him over the others.

In the finale, Tango and New York got engaged. However, he broke up with her at the reunion special, citing comments New York had made on the show about his mom.

“Like I said in the first scene, I came to know and meet Tiffany. I proposed to Tiffany, but I got New York. I sat back and watched New York disrespect me and my mother and that can’t fly. It’s over,” he said, storming offstage.

Enraged and presumably humiliated, New York began cursing him out as Tango continued to make his way out of the room. “It’s a wrap. Nobody disrespects my family, ever!” he shot back.

Sometime after their breakup, New York began dating George “Tailor Made” Weisgerber, the winner of the second season of I Love New York. But that has since ended as well.

Tango revisited his relationship with New York in an October interview

Appearing on Rock of Love star Lacey Sculls’s podcast Talk of Love, Tango opened up more about what happened in and after season one.

According to him, he and New York had a genuine connection on the show (though he claims the proposal was staged by production).

After the season wrapped, they were forbidden from seeing each other in public so as to not spoil the outcome of the show. But still, “We talked every day and we talked about establishing things we didn’t on the show, which was establishing a friendship, establishing honesty, establishing a level of loyalty that you need to establish a relationship,” he said.

However, he claimed, New York had been keeping the negative things she’d said on the show a secret from him. Noting he didn’t tune into the season, Tango said he only learned of her comments when he did a press appearance on The Tom Joyner Show.

“Mind you, me and her are talking every single day,” he said. “At any given time, she could have said, ‘Ayo, I’m trying to get spicy, so I’m saying all of this belligerent, disrespectful stuff. Don’t be alarmed, I said some crazy sh*t about your mom.’ She could have said that at any time.”

But “at no point is she telling me about any of this stuff … so when I heard that and when he started to run down some more audio I had never heard I felt like, this is all bullsh*t,” Tango continued. “So when you saw me go on the reunion, I was on full ‘get back’ mode.”

But now, he’s letting bygones be bygones

Regardless of the things that happened in the past, Tango doesn’t seem to be harping on it. “I love to hear about how well she’s doing,” he added.

The two could even reunite in a “one-off reunion special” New York allegedly has in the works. Page Six reports that she and her “favorite contestants” will come together to “revisit the show’s greatest moments, break down the biggest heartbreaks, and dive into how the cast members’ lives have evolved through the years.” But there’s no word just yet.
