‘If Gaslighting Were An Olympic Sport’ Meghan Markle Would Win, Commentator Says
Meghan Markle‘s Netflix lifestyle show hasn’t even come out yet but it’s already causing backlash following the release of the trailer as critics have labeled it “tone-deaf,” “out-of-touch,” and “laughable.”
The new show titled With Love, Meghan is the latest production from the Sussexes as part of their multi-million deal with the streaming giant to create content. There is pressure on the duchess to get eyes on her show because the couple’s only hit was the six-part docuseries Harry & Meghan about their lives as royals. The pair’s other programs Live to Lead, Heart of Invictus, and Polo have all flopped.
While the former Suits star‘s success with her cooking and gardening show has yet to be seen, plenty of people are weighing in. Netflix has surprisingly kept the comments for the trailer turned on and they are brutal.
Meghan called ‘Princess of Plagiarism’ and accused of ‘gaslighting like an Olympic sport’
Royal commentator and To Di for Daily podcast host Kinsey Schofield had a few thoughts about the trailer for With Love, Meghan along with her return to Instagram after a seven-year hiatus.
During an episode of Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered, she called Meghan the “Princess of Plagiarism.” The duchess has been accused of copying several recipes, and even stealing ideas such as beekeeping from other royals like the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton), who keeps bees at her Amner Hall, and King Charles, who has hives at both Clarence House and Highgrove House.
Schofield also discussed the fact that Meghan has disabled comments on her new Instagram account.
Sources told Page Six that Prince Harry’s wife wants to discourage online bullying and has “engaged in constructive conversations with senior executives at Meta about creating safer and healthier online environments. While there is still work to be done, she feels confident that by returning to Instagram, she can amplify the progress made so far and lead by example in demonstrating the potential for social media to bring joy and positive connection.”
In response to that, Schofield said: “As if gaslighting were an Olympic sport, this is the same woman who has a file on her at Kensington Palace for bullying allegations.”
Comments under the ‘With Love, Meghan’ trailer are mostly negative
The trailer for With Love, Meghan has surpassed 1 million views. There have been claims that within hours it amassed more than 100,000 dislikes. However, the dislikes feature is disabled and only the likes are visible. Those currently sit at 14,000 for something that again, has over 1 million views. What Netflix has kept open thus far is the comment section and the vast majority of those 40,000 comments are not good.
One person wrote: “A lot was ripped off of Pamela Anderson, the ladybugs were ripped off of one of her ex-boyfriends, the ice cube idea was in Pippa Middleton’s cookbook, some of the mannerisms are from Jamie Oliver. The beekeeping and running on the beach bit was done by Princess Catherine. The ‘Taking something ordinary and elevating it’ quote was ripped off from Samuel Mockbee. [Princess] Diana used to sign her letters ‘With Love, Diana.’ Nothing about this is an original concept, and is frankly quite creepy.”
A second person posted about another quote Meghan took from someone else writing: “‘I love to take something ordinary and make it special,’ Ina Garten. And then the queen of plagiarism stole Ina’s quote and made it hers. Shame on you, Netflix, for allowing this fraudulent woman to be paid $$$millions while real and talented and hardworking women and men are being paid pennies for their amazing work!”
And a third chimed in: “Two words for you Meghan — Basic hygiene! Having worked in the food industry and had to go on to hygiene courses, your hair should be tied up, no nail polish and certainly no rings on your fingers. These are all potential things for bacteria to form.”
