Learn more about the episode and the reactions that fans had to the news about André, below.
New episodes of ‘Impractical Jokers’ are on the way
The new episode will air on Saturday, April 2, on truTV, TBS, and TNT, according to a press release from WarnerMedia. The show is still filming, as of writing, and will feature different celebrity guests in upcoming episodes.
On Instagram, Murr clarified that Andre, best known for his self-titled sketch series on Adult Swim and hidden camera comedy film Bad Trip, would appear in a punishment. “The punishment is crazy,” he shared. “We filmed it about two weeks ago, you’re gonna love it. And then brand new episodes of ‘Impractical Jokers’ begin in June. You’re gonna love it. It’s great.”
How fans reacted to the addition of Eric Andre
Often, the news of a replacement or guest host is met with skepticism and negativity. But surprisingly, the news about Andre appeared to generate mostly positive reactions from fans of the show. While there was some concern over his raunchy style of humor, overall, many thought he’d mesh well with the jokers.
“He may be a little more on the fringe of that type of humor, but he’s a genius and half of his show is doing insane s*** in public to strangers,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “Their humor styles may be a little different, but I think he would do great on it.”
“I was gonna say, outside of the fact that he’s decently recognizable, he’s the perfect person to do this. He’s hilarious and will likely do anything they ask,” read another comment.
“I’m not sold on a ‘new face every week’ format yet, but Eric Andre, wow. Way to start off with a bang,” said another. “This is gonna be a breath of fresh air (still miss you Joe).”
“I actually think this is the best thing they could have done,” a fourth fan wrote. “Bringing in celebrities can make this show more popular than it already is, and if they are selective over who they choose and edit it right, every episode will feel like a breath of fresh air while still being funny. We had 10 years of Sal, Murr, Joe and Q… I think it’s time they changed the formula a little. Provided the person is actually correct for the role.”
Other celebrities they want to see on the show
Some fans also took the moment to throw in their votes for other guests they’d like to see on the show. Joey Fatone, Nathan Fielder, Tristan Mays, Danica McKellar, and Jameela Jamil were all names that came up, though some questioned whether they’d be able to pull off the pranks due to their level of celebrity.
Whatever the case, the jokers have promised exciting things ahead for fans.
“The show, it’s gonna be a bit weirder, the show going forward,” Q said on the Tell ’em Steve-Dave! podcast, hosted by him and Walt Flanagan and Bryan Johnson of Comic Book Men. “I’m able to get a little bit more of my s*** [in] … I am getting in some like fun weird s*** now. It’s kind of revitalized the show. I think this is actually going to give the show legs that were getting tired if that makes sense.”
“Now I’m just like, ‘F*** it, let’s start breaking format here and there,” he added. “I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think people were going to like it, but I think people are going to be really surprised at what we end up doing. It’s going to be great. I’m more invested and more involved and having more fun than I’ve had in a long time.”
